Ristorante Marco Martini today, a Michelin starred joint, for lunch. Goober and SG might call me mad for not going to Nonna's down the road but, hey it was amazing.
Starters -
I have 12 hour short ribs with "pizziaola", pureed garlic, tomato and oregano, and with a tomato powder on top
Flora had the equivalent of a scotch egg over here, with mozzarella and anchovies in the middle.
For primi, I had penne with stewed leek and a crisp mixed with my boy, nduja.
Flora had pasta with chorizo crisps and cod tripe which is a new one to me, but is intensely fishy.
My secondi was my favourite - perfectly fried sweetbreads with carrot puree, chinotto gel and powdered olive oil (?)
Flora had piglet with pomme puree, apple and mustard. It was comically piggy.
Pudding for me was "ricotta, pear and chocolate". Tasted like a luxury Oreo with a punch of fruit.
Flora had salted caramel, chocolate and peanut
It wasnt cheap, but I'm a fan of the whole experience every now and again, I guess like a spa day. Lovely stuff.
Went to Sova Vegan Butcher for lunch today and got this massive kebab. It was delicious but enormous and far too much food so I took half home and had it for dinner as well.
Harry and Meghan were eating in a restaurant round the corner which made it a massive pain in the arse to get to from my office. A large chunk of the street they were eating on was blocked off and there were people and Garda everywhere.
I also went vegan today, in Trastevere which is the hipster bit of Rome. Stall selling polpetti made to rider, €1 a pop with vegan pesto. Lovely. Green ones were spinach and orange were pumpkin .
Found a tiny Sicilian place. No menu at the door, just a photocopied piece of paper in a Polly pocket. Certain dishes only available certain days, and they're basically spooned into a bowl by a woman at a window as they're all stews that have cooked for hours.
I had "lamb in vinegar" which was basically every bit of lamb. "Greens" on the side which had a fierce chilli hit.
Cheese for after which rolled up like this bastard
Flora won by ordering the jiggliest, biggest, tastiest tiramisu of all time
Cash only, and she wrote out our bill on the table
Hands down best thing we have had.
Now I'm in a wanky cocktail bar drinking a zombie.
Had the Ari Gold in P & B yesterday, after hearing MASSIVE things. OK, but didn't live up to the hype (too slimy and no flavour to the patty). Sorry, but no ginormous pics of my food for you to wish that I hadn't posted because you know what food looks like because you have eaten it.
I remember going to P&B years ago and thinking it was excellent, but I went with Bollo a few years later, and it was much, much worse. Think turning into a franchise killed 'em.
Gonna turn it more into a big side dish than have that much fucking halloumi fries, but I've no clue what to do as a main - I was thinking doing home made veg burgers, but also could do a meat. Any suggestions?
