It’s not the same level of dominance and there was at least some interesting races, possibly due to the Rosberg/Ham clashes. But even outside that Mercedes didn’t have the leg up Red Bull did with their package (was it all blown diffuser related?).
Let’s face it Vettel has proven he’s not the best racer in the world. Stick him out front and he’s great hence the RB dominance. But fighting for a position and he just fucks it.
Next season could be great. Simplified front and rear wing which should allow the car behind to get closer. New blood in Russell (williams) and Norris (mclaren). Riccardo should be up for the fight at Renault. Honda at RedBull. Vettel, Sainz, Hulkenberg and Max will all be under pressure with new teammates. If Ocon gets the 2nd seat at Williams then he'll have to out qualify and out score George Russell otherwise his Mercedes career will be over. Renault and Honda should get closer to the Mercedes and Ferrari engines.
And after all that, lewis will probably be a six times world champion, lol.
Webber was clearly heavier so carrying a disadvantage and I think they pursued a development direction that flattered Vettel.. They also clearly gave him advantages when there was limited parts..
But he was very good at getting just far enough ahead and then managing the race.. In my memory he won all four seasons at a canter but apparently some of them where quite close..
To be fair it's nearly always been the way in formula one that one or two teams are at the front.
I wonder what the odds on the top 4 taking each other out in the first corner is? I could deffo see the RBs getting a bit close with each other, and Max throwing it around to stop the Merc/Ferrari slip-streaming them too...
Aye, Ham punted into oblivion. Title not clinched.
Which would play into liberty media’s hands and keep the final races more interesting.
Trouble is if Hamilton is to cautious your usually even more in danger .. I expect him to play the percentages though and bring it home safe. Max and Daniel deffo could have a coming together.
Not sure I'm going to stay up for the highlights on Channel 4, but if I don't then avoiding the result is likely to be tricky tomorrow. Hope it's a good race!
