That new Tool album leaked (sans interludes) and it's a behemoth. Of the 7 tracks, one of them is an instrumental, the others are all longer than 10 minutes. Hnnnnnngh.
It's cos it's a silly piece of nonsense that features "a 4” HD rechargeable screen with exclusive video footage, charging cable, 2-watt speaker, a 36-page book, and a code to download an MP3 edition of the album with an extra song, Recusant Ad Infinitum"
Alex Gray has always done fun visuals for Tool so it'll b cool to see what that stuff all looks like.
Honestly? He's mentioned none of this. Didn't they have an album that you had to crack open or damage in some way to reveal an Easter egg? Not Bill Hicks hiding behind the back cover, something else maybe.
He didn't know, unbelievably. Replied to a text with 'dunno but I'm expecting fancypants', so I've explained. He buys everything Tool, Patton or Melvins related, I guess he just really wanted the cd.
Really really. Don’t know anything about the damage one; they’ve done fun stuff for ages though. 10,000 days came with a stereoscopic art book and stereoscopic lenses built into the cardboard casing.
Fuck all of that. If you like what an artist is doing, pay them for that shit. Every Radiohead album gives me at least £100-worth of pleasure, I’ll pay £100 for the next Radiohead album sight-unseen.
New Tool album is a 10/10. Been listening to the leak all week and just did half of it with headphones on the bus to work. Comfortably up there with Lateralus as their best work.
Goldie's Saturnz Return got a release/remaster today.
I will make no apologies for being a massive Goldie fan. I think he is something special. A boy from the wrong side of the tracks that has become, by accident one of, if not the greatest composer of our time.
I saw Timeless performed by live orchestra at South bank and it was spooky. Goosebumps, smiles, tears, laughter. Just incredible.
This rehash of his least appreciated album is a bit of a studio move but there is a noticable improvement on the audio quality.
It's a strange album. Stacked full of featured artists but the stand out track is just Goldie. It was also the track that sunk the album at the time. The hour long Mother. A commercial flop on release given his peak fame and label expectations. Listening now, it is beautiful. So honest and open hearted. The track IS Goldie. From what I have read this was his intention for the album, when he pulled himself out of coke binges, everything else was filler, that track was what he had to get out.
I love it.
Take the time for it. The track is an hour long. Lay back on the sofa or in bed, close your eyes and embrace it as the masterpiece it is.
Saturnz isn't really as timeless as uh Timeless but it's still fucking great. I love the Bowie number on it. I'd love to know what Rob Playford's up to these days too.
Maynard’s voice has always been great. Brilliant range, really dynamic, able to do smooth as honey (APC’s 3 Libras) and utterly balls to the wall (Famed scream at the end of The Grudge) but he’s at his melodic peak here I’d say. Mostly more restrained (Pneuma, Culling Voices) but able to bring the edge when it’s needed (Invincible, 7empest). Despite being sons of his most consistently great vox, the instrumental work is the triumph here. It’s the best they’ve ever been.
I don’t think they’ve been pure metal since Opiate/Undertow
I've only managed to give it the briefest of listens, but Mach has just made album #1 available for pre-order. Got plenty of pedigree cutting teeth in relentless noisy indie band My Psychoanalyst, before a few years out, and then boom this turns up. Real slice of sunshine and happiness wearing an electropop summer dress
