It's pissing down outside today, so I've got time to kill. Consequently I've just watched this Digital Foundry retrospective on the infamous Sony E3 2005 presentation that included a tonne of absolute bullshots like Killzone 2 and Motorstorm. It's an interesting watch. We're fifteen years on and there's a few things that appear in their "PS3 demos" that the DF guys point out you still wouldn't get in the games of today.
Worth a watch...
Still raining outside, so onto attacking giant enemy crabs for massive damage...
The interesting thing to me though, is if you look at that Killzone preview now (1st video, 57:00) it’s not actually that great. They build up with the, ‘uh oh, here we go’...and, well, lots of it looks shit. The flame effects, the wooden animation, explosions, faces - it’s not the pretty much FMV that I remember.
Oh aye, for sure, but it was 15 years ago, and memory always remembers these things as being better than they actually were. It was absolute bullshit though, but for my money the Motortorm one is far funnier. Absolute nonsense right there.
