I mean, the sound is dreadful. Everything sounds so far away. It's impossible to tell if that tank battle is a mile away or around the corner. Pinpointing incoming fire is also impossible unless you're actually getting hit thanks to the woefull audio cues.
The graphics are very shinny but bland. The environments seem entirely devoid of life, and not in a post apocalyptic way, more a "model village" way, as if they have never seen human life before.
Snipers all over the rooftops, the absolutely massive distances between objectives with literally nothing interesting in them, the laggy, stuttering netcode, the floaty movement, the poorly placed objectives.
It's just a bit shit, and that's in comparison to BF4, not any current shooters available.
Where's the jeeps somersaulting through the air due to a crafty mine you placed, demolishing half the building as it explodes? I'm not sure there are even mines anymore as playing one would be utterly pointless on such a giant area.
Tanks are no longer scary as you see one coming from a mile away and can easily avoid it, and it has a million more target than it used to anyway.
No more flanking the other team, as the other team is scattered across the map along with your team.
As Goober says, the maps are just dreadful and look like they were built the day before.
I'd be interested to try portal mode tbh. I'm not expecting much after playing the other stuff though.
Never heard of any of those sites! Fucking hell, this is the first BF that I have no interest in - despite having fun with both BF1 and BFV. A sorry state of affairs.
Been playing a bit on the free weekend on Gold. Just doesn't work. Can't tell if it still has the TTD/TTK out of sync from BFV or if PC players are just faster. The movement and the gun play both feel like something from the 360 era. There's no motivation to do anything but fuck around because the score board isn't really a thing and I suspect they're still doing that thing where they even up the scores at the end.
Going back to BC2 was quite nice and it looks really good, but it's hard to see any of the Portal content having much of a shelf life given how fractured it all is. It's actually mental that they launched all this in one package when they should have been really worried about player retention. Would have been a nice standalone in the spring.
Turn crossplay off. And it feels like the older games.
PC players have a ridiculous advantage in terms of speed of turning, aim and recoil control.
TTD. Is quick because everyone has pegged that certain SMGs with certain customisations shoot incredibly fast and over stupid distances as well.
Saying that I was getting beamed in BFV by smgs from across the map so it’s no different.
Personally I don’t give a crap about a scoreboard or KDR display. Especially in an objective based mode like Breakthrough.
Sometimes you just have to throw yourself at the objective and overwhelm the defenders. Makes kdr massaging/caring pointless.
It’s less than the sum of BF4, I won’t argue that but is the closest thing I have to BF4 so… Its this or nothing (I put BF4 on a few months ago and it entirely consisted of servers running metro, lockers, golmud 24rs. The only other map was siege of Shanghai).
So this is on Gamepass now and it's into it's third season so I thought I'd give it a go as I'd not played it since the frankly awful beta.
Well, it's certainly much better - but it's not something I would recommend paying actual money for. It's utter mayhem in the 128 player games and not in a good way that previous BF games have been - where you can find fun in the inventive ways you can team up and kill the opposition. It's just spawn/die/spawn/die - getting constantly killed by either snipers, PC players or the network code.
The maps are often so stupidly big that unless there's a handy vehicle (which handle like a three legged donkey) you can spend ages running towards the action only to get killed by a sniper.
They've essentially got rid of the classes and replaced them with specialists who have a unique ability - the loadouts are still there under the labels Assault, Engineer, Recon and Medic but you can equip any weapons and gadgets to any 'class' so it renders them pointless. Apparently they're bringing them back next season which will maybe improve the menu hell when you want to change specialist or loadout/weapon mods. If you want to change these things after you die, it's some combination of X, A, X, stick, RB, X, LB, A, stick, X, A and B. Fucking ludicrous.
The good stuff? It's graphically incredible and it's fun playing old BF maps in Portal mode and very, very rarely it comes together - but the majority of the time it's headless chickens agogo with no one actually holding objectives for any length of time.
And yet I'm still playing, looking for nuggets of gold amongst the nuggets of shite.
I've been half tempted to try it out via GP. BF has always been a mess in my experience, I think I liked it the most with BF2 or whatever on the 360 I think, used to love flying the choppers. Also the minimalist WW2 one, 1943? That was great because there was no unlocks or other bloat.
This is on a free weekend on xbox, so I had another look last night. It has come on leaps and bounds from launch, it all feels reasonably solid and I was getting kills easily enough. It just doesn't feel great though, it's a bit like an ambitious first game from a new developer, not the culmination of twenty years work.
I'll give it more of a go over the weekend, but there's a nagging feeling the big changes they've made were bad ideas that can't be fixed.
I played some of this. Honestly it feels exactly just like the other Battlefields I've played, not sure what the fuss was about. I've come to the realisation that I feel like they've always been a bit shit, plenty of fun at times of course but just so messy.
