Montezuma's 100% Absolute Black is probably my favourite >90% chocolate. Tesco and Sainsbury's stocking it now. Good old Lindt 90% and 85% are best for sweeter options.
I've been buying Hotel Chocolate batons in various strengths but I think the shape of the batons compromised the enjoyment. A thinner square off a bar is preferred.
I struggle to pluck up any enthusiasm to get through my 85% bar. I can devour my 70% like it's nothing.
Was in Selfridges at the weekend, their chocolate department is just amazing. Got myself a selection of a brand called Jones's Chocolate or something, a chocoaltier based in Cornwall. It is gorgeously yummy!
In the office today and there's a bag of Quality Street lying around. Had one cos am weak. Disgusting!
Funny to see this thread pop up the minute I get home from the chocolate shop.
We have a tiny little chocolatier’s shop in the village, and I just drove over there on my lunch break to buy some ‘thank you’ chocs for one of the neighbours who did me a favour last night.
He’s nice old chap who roasts coffee in the back room and sells chocolates made by his wife. Seems to make most of his money selling high-end coffee gear online, and if that keeps his wee shop open in the village then it’s grand.
Just had a square of the Montezuma with my coffee and it was splendid. I really have trained my taste buds for it now and enjoy it far more than lower % stuff.
85 tastes quite sweet to me now.
Lindt 99 and 100 are very bitter. The M&S one is pretty good - but Monty is by far my favourite - it must be whatever beans they are using because there really isn't anything else in it.
I think you can tell the difference between beans much more easily when there’s nothing else in there. Same as coffee - take it as a black filter coffee if you want to get to the heart of it.
I tried 100% chocolate because of this thread and it was one of the worst things I've ever eaten. Didn't expect it to be so much like that time I ate cocoa powder as a kid because I thought it'd taste like chocolate.
