Topped up my EShop funds. Ready to roll if it reviews well. It looks a bit Euro platformy in places but hopefully there aren't too many orbs to collect.
I've only done 5 stages and a skill trial but first impressions: this is pretty good. A few reviews mention the Mega Drive but it comes across as more Amiga-ish to me (Amiga CD considering the soundtrack maybe). The screen doesn't do a brilliant job of keeping up with the action all the time and the character really is tiny. Enjoying it though.
I don't suppose many people have their eye on this but I'd suggest taking it off until it's half price; it's disappointingly cack in places. The wall jump feels wrong and the hammer stuff gets annoying fairly regularly, plus any section where you manually move rocks or bounce pads are shit.
Some of the levels are so overlong I reckon I'd be tempted to bin it if it crashed on me towards the end. This is my sort of thing in theory and I'm happy enough pushing through but there are plenty of better indie platformers out there for a fraction of the price. The core mechanics just ain't that good.
I haven't enjoyed the last 10 or so stages and just want it to end now. Some sections are horrendous and I wouldn't replay them if you paid me. Bosses are poor too. Disappointment of the year.
I considering giving it a [4] but I'm not sure if it's that bad or if I just want to finish the write-up with 'a tiny [4]'. It's probably a 5 or 6 but I don't make the rules.
