[Kicking and a-gouging] in the mud and the blood and the beer is a line from A Boy Named Sue by Shel Silverstein (most famously covered by Johnny Cash).
Nice, never heard of her. Sounds like something QT would have on a soundtrack.
I'm back firmly in Chet country atm, just random playlists. Must say I love his classical guitar stuff more than his electric, man sure could pick 'em and those nylon strings give such a warm sound, must get mine restrung.
Also - there's a new Shoulders on youtube (a cover) if you're after a fix.
The first two Kris Kristofferson albums are absolutely ridiculous. Best singer-songwriter country debut and follow up ever. Sorry John, I think your third album is your best.
A lot of people see KrisKris as a film star but his writing blew everyone else away when he broke through.
It samples A John Prine Christmas from his Xmas album. Can't not quite like it, but unless you're into Bright Eyes and Prine I'd probably give it a swerve tbh.
I harbour a deep dislike for Bright Eyes. Can’t stand Oberst. Which is annoying, because he’s made two of my favourite albums with Desaparacidos and with Britt Daniel from Spoon.
New Jesse Daniel on the releases today, I must spin more of this guy's full albums because whenever he pops up he's high quality shit kickin' of the kind Sturg once pumped out. Got to love the visual too.
I like him but find his best tracks often sound a lot like that one. One trick pony maybe but I like tapping my toe to the trick. Champion is my favourite track.
I've a few frames like that, used to have Croy and the Boys, DJ Shadow and Santana up (because I liked the album cover - Caravanserai if you're interested). They're not up atm as moved house last year, but should get them back up. I think Croy is a keeper, but I now have an Al Bowlly LP that I'll put up, and keep meaning to get some shoulders viny, which'll join it.
Re. Bowlly, he's not country but creeping up into my goats over the last 4 years or so, started before COVID. I got a vintage repaired LP player before Xmas from the FIL, 100 years old I think, proper box that you change the needle type and close and it amplifies. Will post a vid here soon of the Bowlly LP on that, will be like a step back in time.
I’m feeling out of the loop here. Just discovered that Ashley McBryde is playing two nights at the Barrowlands next week, and they’re completely sold out. Pre-covid we went to see her at a barely half-full QMU. So that’s her playing to almost 4,000 people over two nights here, as opposed to 600 or so last time.
Two tracks into a 35 track greatest hits and I've just read the text there. Don't think I'll bother now, will bump up my Kristofferson Tidal stats again instead.
Sounded like a budget John Mellencamp to me. He looked like a Toby from the album cover tbf.
On a related note, I've been living in fear of clicking on the thread of the dead for years now. 'Please not Kristofferson' has been a thing whenever I've clicked on new posts for ages. The actual GOAT.
