New EDIT because this is around again. Still going strong. I took last year off so as not to hammer folks every year. if you got cash, holler.
EDIT BECAUSE I'M A MORON AND POSTED IT TO CLOSED BIT OF FORUM
Hello All,
As some of you may know - all 2 of you who read my north american sports blog/thread - I have been volunteering for Helping Hoops for the past year or so. helpinghoops.com.au
It's an amazing organisation that runs free weekly basketball programs for disabled and disadvantaged kids. Heck, just read the spiel on the web site, or maybe just watch me talking about it here:
And here's me giving the spiel again with some action shots.
(The Highlight may be Wally's Bicep.)
Anyhoo, I've been coaching the kids out at Braybrook, which has led to more coaching and all manner of awesome stuff and I love it.
We have our annual 24 hour shootout coming up (29-30 of June). This is our main fundraising event of the year. Think of it like the 40 hour famine, but a little shorter, and more fun. The aim is to have a large group of people shooting free throws for 24 hours straight. Well, not at once, but, you know, in turns, like 15 minute blocks.
So, I'll be shooting for 15 minutes, you lot give me all your money through this awesome simple website Everyday Hero page. And Helping Hoops' secret plans for world domination and/or improving the lives of a bunch of freakin awesome young people grows and continues.
Heck, if you don't want to give us money, you can register yourself and get other people to sponsor you! ZOMG.
(@skerret and any other melbourne based badgers.)
Obviously any of you lot can donate, thanks to the wonders of the interwebs.

Just cleaned up gthe link in the OP Dynamite. Should defo work now. I know it's working for others, as they've already donated. If not, try the one in the other post.
Cheers to everyone. Really awesome response so far. Set a goal for myself of trying to get over $1000 this year, whether that's through donations to myself or in combo with getting others to shoot and be sponsored.
I'm also aiming to shoot over 60% this year. I shot terribly last year, and I've been working on my shot. Aiming for 70% the year after. It's actually really hard with rebounders giving you the ball back quickly to put up so many shots in 15 minutes! Fatigue kicks in.
There's a Lakers Cap signed by Steve Nash up for grabs for the person who raises the most too. I'm aim to win it and then donate it back to HH for auction.
We raised $5500 dollars last year on much shorter notice and with less organisation, if we can start getting $10,000 to $12,000 per year from the shootout we can start paying for new programs outright without relying on grant chasing.
I should also say that the work HH does is very rewarding because the results are actually quite clear. I've been doing some preliminary sessions in Richmond, where we've only just started, and also been down to our Fitzroy program, which has been going for a year, and is still a work in progress, as well as the work out in Braybrook, which has been running for 2-3 years. Richmond compared to Braybrook is like a perfect "before and after" snap shot.
Don't get me wrong, it's not a magic bullet, and there's plenty of other orgs that we work with helping and putting in the work on the ground, but damn, the kids coming out of the otherside of the braybrook program are just fantastic human beings. (And again, I don't want to overplay what HH is doing, a lot of the credit has to go to the young people. Even though it's free, they don't have to show up and work as hard as they do. Kudos to them.)

Half way to my original goal. Still over a month to go. And my mum and dad are gonna be shooting too. They'll be getting sponsorship the old fashioned way.
I can't help with money, I can help by hassling Petey. If this doesn't work, I'll start calling him at three in the morning on a nightly basis until he sorts it out.

FYI: I did check with Petey and a couple of others prior to posting the OP about sticky etiquette. I was pretty sure we hadn't stickied Adkm's 24 thing, and I think there was another charity thing that hadn't been stickied. The only thing that was stickied was Child's play, for obvious reasons.
Anyhoo, I think the current thinking is that it will be naturally bumped.
I'm happy with that.
I would suggest any discussion on the pros and cons of stickying threads like this is probably for the forum upgrades thread or something.
You know what I didn't know until watching the above is that Adam is only paid 20 hours a week.
He actually works about 60 hours a week on HH.
I'm joining him on that front at the moment. Paid for my 20 hours in the mornings, arvos at the BSL are vol and HH hours and Longhorns hours are vol too. Granted, I love the coaching itself so much that I'd just about pay to do it.
