If you come of your bike without specialist clothing, skin-grafts are the very least you can hope to get away with. I'm not saying nobody should take part in activities that have a risk of injury or death, just eliminate the easy-to-address dangers.Matt_82 wrote:With the exception of the folk that have to perform the skin grafts afterwards, for the most part the only person losing out is the tit without the safety gear.

Having been involved in a collision with a cyclist a few months ago (for which I was entirely blameless), I can assure you that it's still a pretty fucking awful outcome for everyone involved, including the driver.Mod74 wrote:You must be easily spooked if the safety of a steel cage, airbags and 4 wheels on the ground wasn't security enough.

A little hyperbole by Sas, maybe, but the number of motorcyclists who ride dangerously seriously outweighs those who ride responsibly.  Mod's flippant remark about being in a steel cage ignores the fact that nobody wants to be in an accident that could cause death, so having a motorcyclist riding a foot from your rear offside corner is unnerving.  More so when you've been watching him in your mirror and you've seen the way he suddenly swoops in and out in front of cars.  Motorcyclists seem to love that spot near your car, probably because it's so near to your blind spot, and they just revel in riding in your blind spot, especially on approach to junctions.Matt_82 wrote:That simply can't be true.

As for that age old thing of cars not seeing motorbikes when they pull out of junctions, it's often because when the driver looked, the motorbike wasn't there, but was making their way as fast as possible. That simply can't be true.

Ah yes, all those accidents where people crash in front of motorbikes, I know them well.Mod74 wrote:People shitting their pants when they see a motorcyclist in their mirrors is what causes accidents. If they continued to drive normally there'd be a lot less.
