I figured their respective ‘looks’ were deliberately styled. Mulder looks like an unemployed bum who’s let himself go. Scully looks like a healthy single American woman who earns good money, goes to the gym and eats well. They both look their age, which is a good thing.
I mean that afternoon I went to debenhams and bought the finest face creams they marketed at men.
I always thought i was aging very well and very slowly compared to pretty much everyone else around me. Seems those constant days outside are taking their toll.
Will come back and read everyone's opinion in a bit but just watched the first episode and...
Good opening, sets it up for fans and newbies alike.
Love that they went with the original titles. Actually got goosebumps watching that.
Then... Well it was like X-Files had taken a healthy dose of speed. The pacing was ridiculous, far too fast and didn't "feel" like the show. Too much exposition and explanation rather than watching and discovering.
And Mulder and Scully seemed to be playing caricatures of themselves. Both looked the part but the acting was Pacino levels of ham.
The good? Always like a bit of alien 1940's gubbins. And the shift to bring it into line with recent events definitely nods to what sci-fi does well, comment on current world issues.
So not a total disaster, but it definitely needed to be an extended opening episode.
The thing that used to annoy me the most about OG X-Files was the ridiculous cross cutting of time and place.
Where are you Mulder?
I'm in Mexico.
We need you in Washington, Scully is about to be murdered any second
That's Ok, now I'm in Washington and I've saved Scully
But now we need you in Nevada because this weeks monster is about to kill someone
That's OK, I'm in Nevada now and I was in time to save everyone...
This was taken to a whole new level of bullshit in the opener of NewXFiles to the point where they were reduced to just joking about it.
How did you get here Mulder?
I hitch-hiked...
Now I get that that's perhaps the sort of thing that would perhaps only annoy someone who majored in Film Editing when doing his Masters Degree at University while the XFiles was originally airing, but fuck me does it grind my gears.
Yep spotted that when they were in the limo first in a city then in the country in Virginia. I have a poor grasp of US geography but I'm guessing it would have been several hours in that car.
FUCK GUYS I WANNA READ THIS THREAD SO BAD BUT I HAVENT SEEN THE EPISODES YET HNNNNNNG IS THERE ANY WAY TO WATCH THESE LEGALLY IN THE UK OR ARE THEY US TV FOR A WHILE?
"Let me tell you, when yung Rouj had his Senna and Mansell Scalextric, Frank was the goddamn Professor X of F1."
It was nice seeing the gang back together. Gillian Anderson still tha hawtness but part of me feelsbadman because og Scully before rolling stone was the smexiest Scully of all in some ways.
I like the direction they are seemingly taking the grand conspiracy in now, I don't mind when the show gets a bit pulpy/schlocky it fits it imho.
Looking forward to the next episode, but every time I saw Skinner I can only see him as the white supremacist neo nazi from Sons of Anarchy lel.
Cancer mans now physically gross appearance was also suitably fitting I thought.
"Let me tell you, when yung Rouj had his Senna and Mansell Scalextric, Frank was the goddamn Professor X of F1."
Just watched the second episode, started well, more like the X-Files I remembered. But the characters explaining stuff so much still jars. When is the good episode?
And I can't get it out of my head that Skinner looks like Will Ferrel's impression of James Lipton Inside The Actors Studio... http://youtu.be/xpZ02A9aUVQ
