Installing on laptop is piss, Moot. Go to the site, grab the linux or windows installer, done. Follow the add on guides, install them in seconds, you're set to go.
It's supposed to be for the Firestick, I had KODI running on my desktop (windows 7), but I wanted to set the missus up with films and whatnot on the big screen downstairs. What I should have done is plugged her laptop into the HDMI socket, in hindsight, but I thought the Firestick/remote would be handy/easy for her to use.
Cheers everyone. Apologies for my incompetence, I'm shit at anything like this. Currently watching a remote access Norton representative fail to update the driver software on my PC. This has snowballed.
Just fiddling with this thing now. I'd say Chromecast is out due to its built in dns. If what you want is films, tv etc streamed you could try Popcorn Time, which does streaming via torrents and is compatible with Chromecast.
So, I've got my Fire Stick, installed Kodi, added various add-ons, and it's all spanky-dish. The only fly in the ointment is that I can't get Ikono installed. I've bought it on Amazon, but it doesn't appear to download. Anyone else had this issue?
Done it now. I just did a factory reset and added Ikono first before doing anything else. I'm now all sorted with Kodi on the main screen, and I've got Genesis, Phoenix and VdubT25 add-ons ready and raring to go.
I had plenty of buffering on PC and phone. Thinking it could be ISP related.
As an aside,it's a said state of affairs that I had to use Kodi for the hurling as the stream from our national broadcasters site wouldn't load!

Wouldn't have thought it would improve any, why would it? The fire box is a dedicated streaming box, if it isn't going to work on that it isn't going to work.
Been using xbmc long enough to know that on any given day a stream can be great/shite seemingly at random.
