Or maybe the terms of the agreement with Mojang meant that all Minecraft games going forward had to be multiformat, and no decision needed to be made. We just don't know. It's not like it's a locked in ecosystem where points or credits cross over (is it?). They're distinct titles as far as I am aware, all badged under the same core product, which was already multiformat.Paul the sparky wrote:Yep. Still a decision to be made on it, and one they said yes to, with good reasonDiluted Dante wrote:Oh I meant to put Legends as well. I'd say that any Minecraft branded game would have an expectation of releasing on everything since Minecraft itself was multiplatform before Microsoft bought it, so the playerbase is everywhere.
Paul the sparky wrote:So when the first thing that Uncle Phil said was "We're going to take 4 games and bring them to other platforms, and it's not a change to our fundamental strategy regarding exclusivity", what he actually meant was that they're having to fundamentally change their strategy? Funny way of wording itLivDiv wrote:They said in the podcast that they are having to change strategy They said there isnt space for growth without expanding their audience and that they want Xbox gamers to be on more platforms. They said that this is why, in 2024 they and others have had to make layoffs.

https://www.gamespot.com/articles/microsoft-wants-game-pass-on-playstation-nintendo-and-every-screen-possible/1100-6519551/Microsoft wants to bring Xbox Game Pass to PlayStation and Nintendo. Xbox CFO Tim Stuart said during the Wells Fargo TMT Summit this week that the goal is to make first-party games and Game Pass available on "every screen that can play games," and this includes rival consoles.
"It's a bit of a change of strategy. Not announcing anything broadly here, but our mission is to bring our first-party experiences [and] our subscription services to every screen that can play games," Stuart said. "That means smart TVs, that means mobile devices, that means what we would have thought of as competitors in the past like PlayStation and Nintendo."
Tom Warren, Verge Journalist wrote:Microsoft has been gradually moving Xbox away from the idea of a single piece of hardware in recent years, with ambitions to reach billions of gamers across consoles, PCs, and mobile devices. Now it’s officially bringing four Xbox-exclusive games to PS5 and Nintendo Switch amid an “Xbox Everywhere” effort inside Microsoft that will likely see even more games arriving on rival consoles. It’s a seismic strategy shift that the company is downplaying publicly, so I sat down with Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer to get some answers and discuss the company’s vision for the future of Xbox.
