Anyhoo, here' a fun little six degrees of separation rabbit hole type thing for Christmas.
Favourite Christmas choon?
Might well be this absolute banger which would put a smile on the stoniest of faces...
Where this gets interesting though, is while it's obviously from the Planes, Trains & Automobiles soundtrack, it's actually by a band called Silicon Teens.
John Hughes had heard it, and liked it so much he commissioned them to re-record that version for the film soundtrack, but the original version is this one...
which was a track on their only album, 1980's "Music For Parties" which was a bizzaro collection of proto "chip-tunes" before anyone else had ever thought about that maybe being an actual thing. The whole album can be found on YouTube, but RRR is the standout track.
Why is this interesting? you ask. Well, now it's time to read the Silicon Teens wikipedia page, which I won't spoil here. Made me smile anyway.
...and while we're talking about stuff that made me smile, here's a cracking little mini-documentary about how the original cut of Plane's Trains & Automobiles was an incredible 3hs 40mins long, and how it was cleverly edited down, with entire plot threads removed in the cutting room, and how nobody seems to know if all the missing footage even still exists. Fascinating stuff.
