Do Boardgames Dream of Miniature Porn?
  • Re: Pandemic. Don't forget, you can only trade the card of the city you are both stood on, bar the specialisation that voids that rule. I played a game or two without ignoring that particular stipulation and thought it was too easy.

We had four of us last night and beat it on 'Heroic' easily enough.
  • You are better at it than my family, though I often end up having to 'take charge' which is no fun.
  • Should also mention that I am selling Pandemic for £25 and San Juan for £15 as I really want Netrunner but need to offload these as I never play them.
  • I've been hearing a lot about Netrunner. What makes it a "living card game"? Not sure I understand the term

  • LCGs are basically the same as CCGs like Magic etc but you don't need to buy random boosters that rely on uncommon and rare cards to keep you buying.

All the expansions are translucent so it's basically the same as Dominion in that respect, but you do 'build your own deck' from the cards that you've got.

Netrunner is asymmetrical (excite) and you have enough to build a certain amount of 'set decks' from the box, but if you wanted to spice it up you could but the expansions (data packs) or another base set to double your resources. Basically its the antithesis of the CCG in that it works the same, but you don't need to buy anything beyond the core to compete.
  • Cheers Tempy, cleared it up. I do like the sound of that asymmetrical side of Netrunner. Apparently it plays very well over Skype

  • ORLY?

If that's the case then maybe we'll have to BUY IT *wink wink*

    and PLAY IT *nudge nudge*

    Over SKYPE *eyebrow wiggle*
  • Indeed. Not sure of the ins and outs but the guys on the Secret Cabal Gaming Podcast it played great

  • I most 2 player card games would. Heck, I reckon Space Alert would work over Skype if you had enough copies of the game. Dominion would certainly work fine.

Didn't get any boardgames. Gutted. Never played T2R, Dominion or Legendary. They proper interest me.

Was reading about a game that is played in real time by all to explore a kind of temple that players create with tiles and move there piece through along to an mp3 track that marks the phases of the game. There are 5 dice per person, that obstruct, let them move, let them open things, give them abilities, curse them or free them. The point is to place the exit tile and get out before the phases / the mp3s ends.

Fuck, I could've searched for the article in the time that took to type. Anyone know what it's called? I'm bloody interested and don't recall.

Wasn't than Shin, something else. Will have to watch a vid of that though.

There was a twist in this, you could cooperate with other players if you wanted by loaning them what you rolled before taking the die/dice back and rolling your next go.

  • Got plenty of buzz on BGG.

Ironically, I'm struggling to get people to ply Twilight Struggle. Who'd have thought a board game representing the power struggle between USA and USSR during the Cold War would be a tough sell

  • Netrunner is an excellent game but quite draining.

Netrunner looked great but I went for Legendary because of the 1-5 player aspect of it. They are both by Upperdeck, they seem to the meisters of this sort of card game thing.

  • Gonna stick Pandemic and San Juan on eBay on Saturday, so if anyone wants them for cheaper than RRP with free shipping, PM me before then.

Both great games, just not hitting the spot here. We prefer Dominon, Small World and Libertalia.

i got the game because it is two player. a lot of games which allow two player are pretty pants in two player (see another android game Infiltration which just gets the two players to pretend to be players three and four)

the game netrunner was actually designed by richard garfield who invented both Magic AND king of tokyo. upperdeck may have published the original (although the cards say wizards of the coast). the current netrunner is published by fantasy flight who make pretty much half the giant games of the moment (including star wars x wing miniatures).

whats libertalia like with just 2 players?
  • Dunno, have played it with 3 and 6, worked better with 3.

Doh I am talking shite. Upperdeck never had anything to do with Netrunner. If I could get someone regular to play with I would definitely be getting Netrunner.

  • My local board gaming store is having a little sale at the moment. 25% off when you spend €150, plus you get an extra % off depending on a 2 dice roll.

Myself and a few friends are going to give it a good going over tomorrow evening. I'm looking at King of Tokyo and possibly another if I see one that takes my fancy.
