There were individual moments in a few songs that showed promise. A couple of them started like Bon Iver songs and then descended into auto-tune/guff-pop hell.Â
Like a packet of Revels there were tiny nuggets of goodness to be experienced but the thought of the coffee one to come ruined the entire experience. 2/5
I will finally have an hour or so to sit and listen to swift today. M. Ward, in first listen, seems pleasant enough. Certainly a couple of tracks standing out with lovely melodies and vocals. The straight bluesier stuff is fine, but that sort of genre fodder tends to struggle to catch my ear. Happy if its on, but I don't seem to actively listen to it.
Ok so far so pop album. I Almost Do and Holy Ground are the only tracks i've not wished a thousand clicks of the skip track button on. There was another one as well that had a fairly neatly edited/chopped up acoustic guitar riff in-between the rest of the instrumentation, I liked that. Just what is this album huh? Why is, what is, how is?
A fairly inoffensive 2 I think. Not wholly dire, but just far too many songs. The good ones were more than passable, but it was an utter drag to get through it all.
Listened to about half of it this morning. It's pretty good. A bit, what's the word? Dreary I guess will do. Will listen to the other half on the way home tonight.
