I really enjoyed it for the most part, although I didn't care for the Soul Cairn and the Forgotten Vale seemed like a missed opertunity on account of its apparent lack of things to do within it. Â But playing Dawnguard with the no fast travel rule certainly made it feel larger than it obviously was.
No fast travel rule must take a helluva lotta discipline
It does a bit. Â It's going to make this play through absolutely gargantuan. Â 145 hours in and all I've done is complete the Dawnguard and Civil War quest lines, the first act of the main quest, half the Companions quest line and two Daedric quests.
Well that new Dragonborn DLC was fantastic, brand new island to explore with plenty of content. I think I stacked up 25 hours checking everything out. The Main story is fairly short but with a great idea for a reward which I'll refrain from spoiling. Well worth it!
Yep, I absolutely loved Dragonborn. Quite possibly the best value dlc I've come across. I really enjoyed Dawnguard, but Dragonborn simply blows it out of the water.
As I'm doing a no fast travel play through, I think I've spent about 40 hours mucking about on Solstheim. The main quest may be brief, but there's a ton of side content and I loved the trips to Apocrapha. Some new music by Jeremy Soule along with some Morrowindian music was just the icing on the cake. Still not done with it, either. There's a couple of quests that had me return to Skyrim to complete, so they need to be handed in, plus a fair few dungeons I haven't even visited yet. There's also the matter of that level 81 challenge.
I actually think Dragonborn is better than Shivering Isles, and I can't wait to go back.
Find the time, and then wave goodbye to the rest of your life.
If I did have one criticism to make of Dragonborn, tis the general aesthetic. Despite my love of all things Morrowind, covering Raven Rock in a whole heap of grey ash certainly fits in with the lore, but it makes the isle look dreadfully drab.
Mind you, I've only just got out of Miraak's temple (and visited the new Oblivion plane once) so I'm hoping Solstheim's got more visual treats up its sleeves.
It wasn't until I hit my thirties that I realised you could unlock rewards by exploring the map
After about 307 hours I finally hit level 81 today. Â Wasted no time in seeking out the Ebony Warrior for a showdown. Â First attempt didn't last too long as he fus or dah'd me off the mountainside. Â He's a tough cookie but he went down on the second attempt.
I looked at my character the other day and saw it was 52 and assumed I had hit the limit. Â Now that I think about it, I seem to remember maxing out destruction magic so I wasn't getting exp for using it.
That and the framerate issue meant that I was more or less forced to wrap the game up before it dropped to 1fps permanently.
I didn't say you didn't. But the gap between levels get so massive you're only going to see a new level by playing for hours and hours. Maybe adding the DLC helps keep things going. But I did all the main stories and it/I ran out of steam long before 81.
Suffering DLC fatigue so given up on this for a while. Level 30 something warrior and not finding much in the new territory that can make much of a dent in me. Silly to introduce extra content but with no extra challenge.
