I used to watch Transformers Armada.
That was like the original show in terms of maturity but had a more modern production values. It was on TV around 2004-2005.
Probably would be ok for younger kids.
Yes, it is. He doesn't look as cartoon accurate as most other MPs (as with Hot Rod, who should be arriving this week) and there's some obvious improvements missing, like folding the bumper away, but he's a lot better in hand than in photos.
haha nice, bit of a shame you can see all that from the back. i'll have to pick him up at some point. my last purchase was MP Magnus, i have still yet to find the time to take him out of the box.
Magnus is a pretty good one; not amazing from behind, but few of them are. It's pretty obvious Takara knows these are pretty much just bought by grown men and focus on them being display pieces first and foremost.
What is particularly cool about Magnus, is the acknowledgement of the inner robot with the head mould:
None of them are perfect; I'm picky and perfect would be a complete absence of kibble beyond characterisation shown in the cartoon/comic. But the main thing is that those are all bigger figures that cost twice as much as Ironhide.
Transformers The Movie is now 30! I remember how much i loved watching it in the cinema, while my dad slept through the whole thing.
30th Anniversary edition mastered/restored from a new transfer incoming, looks pretty sweet. Includes widescreen (top and bottom chopped off) and square version -
I’ve got some sort of remastered version but still prefer to watch my ancient DVD copy that looks just like a VHS rip; has that warm VHS glow to it, really adds to my enjoyment. Everything just seemed too crisp on the later version, no squiggly black lines in places and stuff.
This one? I was thinking it looks a bit naff, tbh. Would have preferred the original artwork than that, I think. Ideally, some kind of almost abtract silver/black Unicron or, perhaps, Matrix design would have been nice.
Seems Machinema are making some Combiner Wars shorts. Up to episode 2. Similar in tone/theme to IDW's More Than Meets the Eye/ Robots in Disguise series'.
Machinema thing hasn't improved at all. Acting and animation are abysmal, script is half arsed. Models, rendering and overall ideas are okay, I guess. Sucks, but confirms opinions of Machinema.
Hey, look, they're finally doing a decent Masterpiece Megatron to go with MP-10 Prime. Even comes with battle damage and that purple gun, so you do the "I would have waited an eternity for this..." thing. Something else to lust after while waiting for MP Inferno to actually release.
In other news, I bought United/Generations Warpath on a whim and it's really impressive. Near perfect update, excellent looking robot an vehicle modes, satisfyingly complex transformation. Pity I've no space for him and he'll be living in the cupboard with Powerglide and Wreck-Gar for now.
