I finally bought this - 25% off just now but mostly I actually have a PC that can run it at last. It seems very promising although I have very little idea what is going on so far, but I made it through the mines on my second attempt (doing the daily challenge).
This game looks real cool and reminds me of that tank game that was a bit like worms on PC in the late 80s/early 90s that had all the cool pixel terrain physics in, so I am in once I have finished with Hades.
"Let me tell you, when yung Rouj had his Senna and Mansell Scalextric, Frank was the goddamn Professor X of F1."
got a perk that gave me infinite uses for most spells, meaning I could spam egg spells to create a cloud of friendly monsters that followed me around, spewing toxic gunk at my foes and frequently catching on fire. Was going great until a frozen skull stunlocked me into dust.
It's properly throat-punchingly piss-takingly table flipping difficult, but in the best possible way. It's not masochistic like Dark Souls where you feel like you are banging your head against a wall after a while. The total luck and constantly surprising and manipulatable world makes it a joy to just chill out in before you get mega fucked by a fat gang of flying cunts. 24 hours in it so far and I haven't seen more than half of the possible spells and perks. Mental game.
Just picked this up as it's in 1.0 now, plus I really liked that old tank warfare game on PC that was a bit like worms but in like the very early 90s which had properly simulated earth slippage and stuff and loads of crazy weapons which reminds of this.
Had a few goes over lunchtime, no idea what is happening, but at one point I found a barrel of booze, shot it, drank a load, got sick everywhere, then somehow filled a blood potion vial with a mixture of the booze and vomit to make a blood, vomit and booze potion, then in my double visioned state i discovered I could use the cursed potion to form a crust on top of lava pools to stand on.
11/10 I have not lasted more than 5 minutes so far. I love it.

There's so much weird stuff to discover and mess around with, there's some weird world altering things that can happen too, like when there's leaking pipes everywhere in the mines meaning that if you wait too long the bottom of the stage ends up drowned in water making it tricky to get to the warp.
I haven't really gotten round to playing a lot of roguelikey games, but this one really appeals to me. It's just a big proper fully interactable sandbox, really quite luck based but also requires some real skill and tactics. I really like that you aren't rushed that much too, you can just chill out and explore and have fun before you inevitably get murdered. It's a good game to have a podcast or something up on the second screen to listen to while playing.
I was on a decent run last night, having reached the ice caves on the daily challenge; I was repeatedly finding increased maximum health and had an invisibility potion, but kept on getting into scrapes, my health depleted and I eventually succumbed before finding the exit (I have never progressed beyond the ice caves)... Damn!
Yeah health is very much a finite resource that will deplete as you progress, even if you are trying your hardest to minimise how much damage you take. That's why when you get to the ice caves and the subsequent stages I recommend you try to quickly carve a path down to a warphole so you have a clear escape path for when you are exploring and inevitably take big damage from something and need to get outta there. You should clear left and right just a little bit so that you don't get enemies dropping on you from above like in that video, but you want to focus on just getting down there fast so you have an escape route. The first two areas aren't too dangerous so I tend to
sweep back and forth laterally to gather as much gold and stuff as I can there.
See if you can ascertain what manner of fuckawfulness was happened upon me here -
Actually, some explanation is probably needed -
Spoiler:
My secondary wand was set up for an explosive instakill, 3 giant firebolts plus some tweaks. I dunked myself in teleportium without thinking, bravely defended myself in my random destination and was about to unleash certain death upon a group of my foes when I was rudely transported right in front of a wall just as I switched to my murderwand...
I keep coming back to it. It's purposefully 'unfair' but once you figure out how to manage risk and manipulate its systems you can start to really take advantage when the luck pendulum swings the other way.
The completely physics based world makes most other game worlds feel really static and lifeless. The possibility for emergent chaos and hilarity is endless. There's waaay more stuff to see in it than first meets the eye too, 'completing' a run is just the start.
