Great thread this. About to get back into recording with Logic and Alchemy (Camel Audio) as my main platform. I'd like to add some decent solo string samples. Any recommendations anyone? Preferably downloadable via t'internet. I looked at VSL, which sound great but seem a bit of a faff to download. Any decent ones of similar quality that are easier to download new get going in logic?
That was awkward and unsettling, never post anything like it again.
I need to get my kit sorted. Got tired using fake amp models and finally ordered a really good one after 4 years of saving. Just need a mic and see how Garageband copes with recording!Â
Hopefully sound like this Youtube demo:
I'll inflict any recordings on the interweb once I know what I'm doing!
Fun afternoon spent in Shin-Okubo pissing around with OG Tweed and Blackie Fender boxes. Had some handsome vintage axes floating around too. Hooray for the Orient and its nerds.
Flavoured ones, aye. They tend to have the tone/gain/master standard controls too. You just plug a pair of 'phones, or a speaker in and off ye go.
Am ampless at present, and it'll do for a fuckaround of an eve.
Interesting. Might get a couple just to have some options when recording in the studio. I assume they still give a nice flavour, though probably more subtle,if you they're preamping a real amp.
Can anyone recommend a relatively cheap digital piano with 88 weighted keys?
Quality before features, but it would be nice to have:
* Direct recording to USB
* Output for headphones
* A quality selection of built-in instruments
I trust Kawai and possibly Roland and Yamaha, but there's so much on offer these days. I like the deeper tones of most of the Kawais I've heard. If it connects to a PC and has good speakers with great keys, that's all I need. Trouble is, from the reviews I've read it seems to be common to get everything but the keys at the sub-grand end.
Features are cheap, I guess, but I'd rather strip them out for better mechanics.
I find the keys ok. They aren't amazing. Thing has a midi out which I've yet to capitalize on. It only has two piano, one chord, and one harpsichord sound, with reverb and chorus optional. Think the two pianos can be twinned or used solo too.
Depending on what you want to do with it, it's good. I am enjoying using it, but it doesn't have the weight of my teachers Clavinova. That said, I only started playing when I bought it in February so I'm not the authority.
Looks reasonable. I'll follow that Casio trail for a bit. Thanks.

I'd hire if I had a local shop. I've the old problem of not wanting to buy something no-one'd sound good on (and giving up), and spending too much to find I don't have enough talent to progress very far.
I've long had half a mind to get a Studiologic controller, but I'd be wasting money if I couldn't be bothered to fire up the computer every time. I know I'd play an upright in the corner if all I had to do was plug it in and shove the 'phones on. If only for five minutes on the regular.
