Has been a pain in the arse for us because some applications won't run in Edge. MS have recently boosted Edge's IE compatibility mode which has dealt with the problems so it does live on.
Personally though, I've used Chrome for so long now.
Because I haven't bothered to change my default browser on my home PC I now often end up going into Edge from a hyperlink in an email. It's absolutely fine.
Chrome at work because that’s what all our tools are designed to work with, Safari at home as I’m in the Apple ecosystem and the way that Safari works across devices is second to none, plus a clean install of Chrome at home as backup in case a site doesn’t work correctly in Safari + my various extensions.
I'm with Yoss on Safari, it just works so well across devices that you'd be mad to use another browser. I sigh when the missus opens Chrome on her iPad and Safari on her iPhone.
Also Chrome for work because dev tools is the best thing evah!
At some point, you’ll only get security updates on older Macs, so keeping it updated may not be enough.
But yeah, that’s why I keep the clean install of Chrome around. Chrome with zero extensions is likely to work on pretty much everything, as soon as you start installing extensions, things might start breaking. Using it as a backup browser means you can load up your main browser with whatever you need to protect your privacy and make the web bearable, but you can always switch back to Chrome if needs be.
Also, the way that Safari works across iOS and MacOS is great too. Keychain for passwords working in apps and on the web, the way that open tabs in one device appear ready to open in another. It’s very nicely done.
Yeah - the old Mac is ancient. It's a work one and it's of no use as a corporate device so I used it at home for browsing and it's grand at that. The occasional website plays up but it's largely fine. It's getting curmugeonly now and reboots every so often. I think the hard drive is knackered.
It's starting to be a bit like Trigger's broom. New screen after it was dropped, new battery after it exploded and it got a new drive a few years ago too.
I'm quite attached to it though. We used it to test iOS connecting to our new wireless LAN which grants access depending on the device type. So it's handy to keep around. I also use it if my laptop needs to be returned to base as I can use Office 365 with it just fine.
