We have a standard female coax socket in the wall (which we assumed was for an aerial when we moved in, but there's no sign of one). Hopefully that's connected to the dish, and I can then get a cable from that to the satellite port on the TV?

I have a feeling it won't be that straightforward.

Despite a technological upgrade to an OLED, I kinda wanna jump up in size too, as I've had a 42" for about 8 years now! I've worked out that the 48 is only 6cm taller and about 11cm wider. I'm going to keep pushing the perks of the 48 with the wife. Might try the old 'buy it and test it, but now too much of a hassle to send back' technique.

Did you pull the trigger yet? I was in exactly the same boat as you.TV in an alcove next to a fireplace. We had a 42" TV in there, but I spent ages debating whether to move to 48" and squeeze every bit of screen real estate I could out of the space. I constantly had the tape measure out working out how I could get the set in at a slight angle. In the end I went for it and so glad I did. The TV is in the alcove at a slight angle but it make for a perfect viewing angle in relation to the couch. The extra screen makes a massive difference, plus at the time, a lot of the good sets really only started at 48". Go big man!

We’ve got three aerial sockets in the house but I’ve only found one cable-end in the loft so far, so in the living room I’ve connected the telly to the sky cable coming in off the dish and use freesat. Used the old sky box for a (long) while before realising I could cut out the middle man and connect straight to the tv.

kestla wrote:I did yeah, and ended up going for the 42. I really tried to figure out a way of making a 48 work (even cut a cardboard box to the same dimensions to test it lol) but our current 42 doesn't even fit within the alcove to begin with, as it's slighty too wide. A 48 would've required a less than ideal angle to avoid the chimney stack and wood burner, and they'd then be a massive redundant space behind the TV. The wife has suggested I can always get a bigger one for upstairs if we decide to go ahead with the loft conversion next year.drumbeg wrote:Did you pull the trigger yet? b0r1s wrote:@kestla the cable is just a satellite cable. It’s threaded at each end and screws onto the connector at the back of the TV. You don’t need a double one like Sky uses. Just a single cable from Amazon should do it.
