At least judging from my brief hands on earlier. Soulsian, but not too Soulsian - to the extent that I kept pressing buttons that now mean different things , L1 and triangle most noticeably...
Played the demo twice at EGX and was left aching for release. The change of aesthetic theme is exactly what the series needed.
You started the demo having a choice between four premade characters which baically came down to great hammer, machete, fast short sword and I think some scythe? All characters had guns in their offhand. The ability to change the properties of weapons on the fly was awesome and very slick, quickly becomes second nature.
Because of no shields, you do "parrying" with point blank gunshots during an enemy attack animation. As far as I could tell you can't do it with melee weapons now. Also couldn't pull off backstabs.
And yeah there's that new health regain system. Getting hit leaves you with a coloured portion of damage you can get back by damaging foes quickly afterwards. Was alright. Seems less important for fast weapon users as the damage regained seems proportional to damage done.
I'm more likely to become the prize catch of the Uni than get a PS4 in the next few years so I've had a look. Animations are much more fluid this time, biggest improvement. Looks like a solid DS game.
Just little stuff like the details on the boss's body, how it animates. Very nice.
Slightly spoilerific thoughst:
Spoiler:
Reminds me of Resident Evil 4 in that the human enemies shout at you and such, that's a very cool feel. Also looks like it's gonna be a proper brawler this time. Gotta get up in folks faces. Loving how you get covered in blood during combat. Gun counters are the shit too. The little floor babies instead of summon signs and messages are ace as well. Very ott.
Got an hour in on the last night of the alpha. Great stuff for the most part. I'm not going into details because of the NDA but generally speaking I do hope the framerate is a LOT smoother in the finished product, and that they up the AI agressiveness a tad, so that it's no longer so easy to run past all the enemies to open a shortcut / reach the boss, it kind of killed the necessary sense of danger and threat.
[ol][li]For the first two years, a dog year is equal to 10.5 human years. After that, each dog year equals 4 human years. This calculation is based on studies that indicate dogs, except maybe larger breeds, develop more quickly in the first two years of life.
So this delay sucks if you're a young dog as it's nearly a year delay.
