  • Oh, your LFF. Aight.

  • Yeah sorry, Irishman does indeed close it, nay tickets for that tho, or Lighthouse. I think I'm going to get membership for next year 'cause you get earlier ticket sales, and this is the second year I've gone to stuff and it's really good.

    Your what?

    London Film Festival I guess?
  • Assassination Nation: a film that is not bad per se but feels worse because it constantly tries to show you how much better it thinks it is compared to how good it actually is.

The film starts with some meta title cards and a narrator but decides to maintain that track through ALLUSIONS and MORALS and SERMONS.

Just back from Joker. Quite a full cinema, but fairly quiet apart from the woman next to me who obviously thought this was going to be some Aquaman level shit. She was trying to get her partner to leave early as she was obviously bored.

Phoenix was spot on as usual and, for the most part, I liked the film. The nods to the broader DC universe were too heavy handed and not, I felt, necessary.

I don’t get the Incel love, not being one I guess I wouldn’t. But I thought the message had more to say about the complete lack of compassion and desire for greed in the world atm. It was very clear the plot points to reductions in public spending directly contributing to the effects of mental health spilling out onto the streets. If the press, which I haven’t read, have only focused on the lone gunman idea, then that’s because it’s an easier target than tackling the shit show that is society and billionaire greed.

It was also clear that they painted

Overall, not a classic, unless we are measuring it against other DC output of recent years, in which case it’s literally Shakespeare.

Never got around to watching The Big Lebowski until tonight.  (on Prime)

Extremely good. Lived up to the hype for me. What a cast.
Holding the wrong end of the stick since 2009.
  • Oh yes Lebowski really is one of the greats.
    Brilliant soundtrack as well.

  • El Camino, the what happened to Jesse after Breaking Bad movie is on Netflix now. Suppose I'll give that a watch later.
  • Is it? Well that’s today sorted then
Not everything is The Best or Shit. Theres many levels between that, lets just enjoy stuff.
  • Finally got around to watching Avengers End Game yesterday. Clearly that tells you I'm not the biggest fan of it all, and overall i found it a bit meh. Still, it's quite an impressive feat i guess just to have something watchable with all those characters and threads and whatnot.

i do have one question about the ending though:

  • El Camino then. There's really no need for it to exist and it adds very little to the BB story. But it's just good to watch all the same.
  • Yeah those were exactly my thoughts as well.

Con Air. Stone cold classic. It’s like they were writing the script and thought take all the action and double, no fuck that, triple it. Would’ve loved to see this at the cinema.

I can’t really see the point of it.

Hannibal Rising.  Killed a hour or two. Formulaic and forgettable. The guy playing Hannibal was good though.

  • 16% rating on Rotten Tomatoes... what made you watch it?
I am a FREE. I am not MAN. A NUMBER.
  • Suprised it is that low, it is a much better film than 16%. Not the greatest film of all time but that score is way too low.

I also thought the guy playing Lecter was decent. I dont think I have seen him in anything else other than a Hugo Boss ad where he says "I'm not going to be who they want me to be anymore" in a blue room full of press, then the walls fall over and he walks off.

The book is good. The stuff when he is a kid is much more fleshed out, if you will excuse the pun.
  • Well 16% isn’t the score, it just means that’s 16% of critics gave it less than 50%, which could be anything from 2 stars to 49/100.
