Got me a copy of RB3, exported to RB4 and finally free to play Killing Moon, yusssss.  Once practice mode is reinstated I think I'm set.

You pop rock band 3 in to your PS3, start it.  It is the recognises as a purchase by you linked to that account.  Hop on to ps4 on same account and go to the more songs bit, scroll down to export and rb3 export is an option.  Select, lay money, download all rb3 songs.

  • But I assume as I've already played on my 360, I wouldn't have to put it in again?

Ah, same should apply for thrixty/Bone.  Yeah, if it's linked to your account through playing it on a 360 the option should come up on Bone.

This has been in my head for about 4 days now. Unashamed.

Back on this atm, soloing coming along nicely, very satisfying. Still a ways to go for face melters but can FC the solos in Cult of Personality Advanced now at least.

  • Now I've got the RB4 band in a box, I've been getting back into this. There are a lot of grumbles with the game, which probably wouldn't matter to someone who hasn't been playing since the first Guitar Hero game religiously.

But the playing is solid. After re-calibrating the game, I'm hitting a lot more now. WOring my way through the track on hard drums, trying to re-wire your brain for off-kilter patterns takes some doing, but I'm getting there. It's a lot of fun.

Been doing some singing when I get a little tired/gets to late to twat the drums. It now seems to register me going lower on songs where it previously didn't in the other games. This pleases me, as it means songs I previously had to pretend to be Axl Rose on now allow me to sing normally on.
  • What was the consensus in terms of better game? Is RB better than GH Live?
I'm falling apart to songs about hips and hearts...
  • It depends what you want really. Both are good games, but it's hard to compare.
  • Yes. They are now no longer the same game but with different catalogues.

Dante will confirm but as far as i know RB is pretty much unchanged. If you've played and loved RB then you know EXACTLY what you will be getting this time around.

GH on the other hand is quite different in both the controller and gameplay.
The new GH controller, IMO, is bloody brilliant the stacking of the buttons above each other on the neck is at first a bit wtf but when you get used to it it's brilliant. Your fingers will be playing twister on the neck and you won't know how you are doing it.
The gameplay is another matter, i suspect for most people it's marmite.
There is a very limited traditional campaign with set songs and then there's the meat of the game which is the GH LIVE mode, these are basically a couple of MTV style tv radio stations that are playing songs in a certain genre. The stations change every hour or so and tend to be light indie pop and heavy rock.

I think the songs tend to be from about circa 2000 onwards.

For me this mode was not at all what i was suspecting to like but i ended up loving it and have discovered many, many songs i would have normally avoided like the plague given the traditional playlist choice.

  • Rock Band has some changes, but these can be reverted so that gameplay wise it's precisely the same. The surrounding features have been gutted, so it actually offers less than RB3 did, but this seems to be down to them having produced the game on a shoestring. They are apparently looking at adding some stuff back in with free updates. Vocal recognition appears improved to me.

If you have bought songs previously, most of these will be available to download for RB4 as well.

I've not spent that much time with GH, so Panty's teardown above probably gives you a better overview than I could. I will say I enjoyed it though, but I prefer the drums to guitar, and GH doesn't have them any more.
  • New Guitar and game for a penny under 40 quid at argos to be picked up today. Looking forward to it.

If you exported 1 into 2 and 2 into 3 you can, but only 3 can be exported across now if you haven't already done that.  Expired rights n that.

    Cheers skezza.
I should be golden *crosses fingers.
  • Putting this here as it may as well become the general music game thread no?

Just got back from the arcade where they have a new stock of eAmuse cards in, letting you link a profile and pay a la an oyster card touch panel at a cheaper rate than coin, plus with option to play "premium free" for 5, 10 or 15 min slots; this means you have a set duration to play as many songs as you want, failing a song isn't game over, you can access all song folders from the off, and can start/quit songs without penalty. Also sets a customisable profile up and tracks scores, clear rate, rivals etc.

It's the same as the official JP eAmuse ran by Konami in Japan, but run by fans and run over here on a private network.

The arcade had just one American girl on popn, plus her angry (dickhead sounding) boyfriend telling her to "hurry up gahhd".

They left after a few mins and I was left to my own devices for an hour or so. Took some pics of the cabs which I'll upload and post later.

Definitely reccommend a visit for any japanese arcade curious badgers. My arcade game is weaksauce though, timing very different, playing simulators on laptop has crippled me. Much gains to be made.

Sounds good man, I'd be interested in checking it out. Where is it? Do they have a site with info or anything?

    It's just opposite Angel station:

    http://vega-london.co.uk/

The main entrance is a casino slots place, but there's some side stairs that take you down to the arcade.

How's about we arrange a pub-arcade crawl some time end of the month? We could start around angel, few drinks, Vega arcade, head to Soho with a few more drinks, bite to eat, Las Vegas arcade for bishibashi finish?

Could be a winner I think, maybe @Moot_Geeza may be up for it if there's bishibashi involved?
  • Looks like the next game from Harmonix.
I am a FREE. I am not MAN. A NUMBER.
  • Looks weird as hell but a good variety of tracks.

I feel like they should have introduced the game with a short video showing how it actually works. Creating mixes from various songs could be cool but mostly I feel like it would just be a weird mash. I'd like to see how it mixes your choices and how it scores you so you can be the first to 21 as they say.

  • That IIDX looks awesome, wish there were something like that near me.
