B&B alblum of the week ... week 11 - Richard Thompson Rumors and Sigh

Given this three listens. 6.5 has been crossed out and replaced with 7 in my little jotter, and I've written 'The Gin One' in the best track(s) section.

Dunno really, just a gradual appreciation
. There's nothing truly special on there, but it's a decent album that doesn't outstay its welcome. If I'd paid for it I wouldn't be annoyed.
Edit: Actually, the .5 can probably be attributed to the sniff of theremin in The Gin One. I'm a sucker for it. I'm only slightly less of a sucker for an accent, and hers is most prounced on that track too. -
I really focussed when I was listening to it because I didn't like it but I felt like I should. I like the individual component parts: her voice, the guitar, etc but combined it just didn't click for me or something.

Fair enough, I get the 'felt like I should' thing, I'm often guilty (?) of this. If I don't like something after three full listens I tend to discard it, but occasionally I really make a concerted effort to appreciate an album I don't initially like if it's an 'album of the year' contender, or hugely lauded. A lot of people turn their nose up at critics but as a rule of thumb, much like gaming, I'm happy to base preconceptions on reviews and scores. Occasionally an album wins me over after the point I would have dismissed most records (Yeezus), more often than not it doesn't (that triple disk Joanna Newsom album is the first thing that springs to mind). -
Give it until Sunday and then we can move on.

Wouldn't be a bad idea for whoever picks the current album to select the next selector, imo. Creates order and reduces confusion.
