It all depends on the car and tune. You want to shift up before hitting the rev limiter, on some cars that's almost as soon as you get into the red, on others you can go 1000rpm into the red before hitting the limiter. You should shift down when braking hard for corners, and shift down early as that will help you slow down. You want to be in the high rev range when you put your foot down so it's something you will learn with each car.
Yep what Goober said, but its best to just do it by the engine note, you hear it getting to the top of the revs flick it up and dont be shy dropping it two gears at once into tighter corners.
I think I've hit the ceiling with the current tune on my '04 Scooby. I've run into a couple of BAC Monos on the leaderboard, managed to brute force past one but I'm just not generating enough downforce to keep up with the next, it's absolutely glued to the track. The guys topping the table in Scooby's must be running full downforce but they ain't sharing their tunes, or are using someone else's altogether.

How high did you get up the leader board Webbins? I picked the 22B as the top time was set with it, but as you say their tune left me for dead round most of the corners.
56th, not too shabby. Yeah the top boys are a bit coy with their tunes, my usual tuners' efforts don't seem to be able to let me break into the top 50.

.067s behind Eric. I spent more time than is healthy trying to beat him. Got past his ghost so many time only to mess up at same spot every time: the mini chicane after the hairpin. There's a dip or something there that fucks me.
I got past him and had quite a lead one one of my laps. Only to brake too late for the hairpin and fuck up.
Damn I just checked the standings and times. Potentially could have come 2nd if that nice run with good lead on Eric had been ok. Goober not far ahead of him.
Phew that was close Elf. Top points go to Webbins this week, you destroyed us, great lappage, Goober in at 2, 3 tenths quicker than me, Elf 4th with some manuals and a welcome back to Birdorf who was the early pace setter this week in 5th. Djornson takes 6th followed by I_R, The 8 th Daddy, Muzzy sneaks in at 9th this week and the final points go to Kow who may have just driven this track by chance in a Scooby!
You don't have to tune it yourself. Instead of using auto upgrade go to load upgrade and just pick a tune that someone from the community has spent time doing. Raceboy 77 has great tunes however stay clear of a guy called Birdorf though, he puts bad tunes out there to scupper attempts at his times. Canny.

I'm 1.9 off a top ten time. I think I can easily squeeze out another second if I can nail the last 3 corners, before I have to start fettling with the tune. Handbrake on 2 of the corners is a must though.
