Also I just realised that there is actually more you can do.
    Spoiler:
  • All these things I need to try. I think I'll try and knock off a few more endings this afternoon.

Y'all should be looking for a certain character's home btw. If you haven't already.

I'll give one hint to where it is:

I am very up & down with this game. Its simplistic and straight-forward, yet still manages to capture your attention. Blink, and 4 hours are gone.

The biggest conflict i have; is the sublime Platinum combat (even in its dumbed-down form) distracts you from the fact its a JRPG - its so easy to fall into an action game mood, when its far from it.

Again, it's hard to pin down why people have rated it so highly, or why i'm drawn to it, despite initial frustrations. But it has a certain something other games lack, and i gather it really 'starts' when you hit NG+, but my concern would be can you keep their attention that long?

I will say this: the soundtrack is the best thing i've heard since Journey.

If I had finished after the first run I would have been significantly underwhelmed. It doesn't just "start" at that point, it soars. Then it goes into orbit. Persevere.

    And yes, OST is amaze.
  • How long for first playthrough? I'm quite slow at games, have played around 6 hours so far. Just beat Scarlet Overkill from Minions movie and decided to go to Village.
I am a FREE. I am not MAN. A NUMBER.
  • I was about 12 ish for the first playthrough.

It's worth considering skipping side missions etc because eventually you get access to a chapter select screen where you can do side missions when you want.

Also NG+ is probably not a good way frame what to expect from the game after the first ending. It's a lot more than that.

Well, it seems somewhat weird to me to talk about this game purely from a gameplay mechanical standpoint, when it's how all things - gameplay, story, music, characters, the constant subversion of the rules of play, the narrative themes it addresses, the emotional effect - comes together that makes it truly great. Everything just flows beautifully.

Yes, it's true that it doesn't start properly until NG+, which also isn't really a "new game plus" but something else, yet my heart was captured during and after the boss fight at the amusement park.

I did. And yes, it made the whole thing even sadder, and slightly
    Spoiler:
It's a world of truck drivers.
  • There was another bit where I was killing machines fairly late on
    Spoiler:

    Awkward.
  • Just finished play through 2, really enjoying it.
  • Can't... stop... taking... side-quests
I am a FREE. I am not MAN. A NUMBER.
  • Lost Girl. Was annoyed at first that I had to escort the stupid mass of metal, but at least I actually got some fights out of it. Jackass 'quest' is better. Do we get a "more / lots of fighting" mode at any point? If not, they should do a "circles of hell" DLC or something.

  • that 3rd speedstar one annoys the shit out of me. so did the second one. probably need to slap together some speed chips.
  • Oh I liked lost girl because it was funny. And no, not really Elf. There's one area that constantly spawns enemies but it doesn't increase in difficulty or anything unfortunately.

For the races I found also increasing the dodge distance helped too.
  • it took me a fair few hours to realise this game isn't an action rpg. Demo kinda misled me.
  • Ha! Finally found a copy in
Game for 30 sheets! The wife's away Friday and Saturday, terrorists allowing, but I'm looking forward to getting stuck in!

  • Only played the demo last night and was really impressed. Is it not an action game?

It's absolutely an action game - an action-rpg SHMUP to be precise, but very light on the RPG outside of the story content.
  • And what an action game.

What a start! It's like 1942.. then it's like a twin stick. then it's like DMC.. then it's like a platformer.. then it's like MGS2 and that's all in the first 10 minutes.

Feels very exciting to play the intro section.. hopefully not to many boss battles and hopefully after the intro bit it'll start explaining some of the systems maybe?? Otherwise I'm kind of learning on the job.

    Started on Normal.

Loving the graphics.. its like an anime your actually playing in fact i was so busy enjoying the action I didn't realise it had seemlessly slipped back into game play until I was taking damage from slamming into walls. Also the music is great.

Kudos to the camera and controls so far too for keeping up with all the different gameplay styles going on!

    Loving it after an hour.

  • Now I'm already having troubles with the easy starter side quests... I'm doing the supply traders request but robots aren't relay spawning in the orange zone and roaming around the map the other robots I'm killing aren't dropping the key and the small gear I need?

    Am I bobbing it?

  • A few hours into this now. Done another mission and a couple of side quest after the demo bit (also went back there and found some stuff).

Certainly enjoying it and looking forward to seeing where it goes. Some intriguing shit going on.

Just wish it was a bit better looking and ran smoother. Looks like a previous gen game (at best - perhaps even a high-res PS2 game) and still has pop up and frame skips. Not being a graphics tart or anything, just think its world deserved a more detailed depiction.
  • Been a while since u booted up the old ps2 huh?
    The Forum Herald™
  • Put it this way - there were plenty of better looking games than this on the PS3/360.
  • There really weren't
