AVATAR - Pandora the explorer.
  • Make it in VR and those Avatar crazies will be all over it.

The film was fine, I'm actually interested to see if they have any good ideas for the next 4(!!!!) films. They're filming them simultaneously too apparently.
  • Yup!

Even Star Wars is stepping aside to not clash with it Christmas next year.

    Going to be HUGE!

Including some good ideas would be a bit of a shift for them.

Although, seeing as the first was Dances with Smurfs, perhaps they'll keep tracking Costner's career? I look forward to Robin Hood, Prince of Smurfs, followed by the Bodysmurf, Watersmurf and finally the Postsmurf.

I can only assume from this that nobody's actually watched the OP video.

This is exactly how Trump got elected.

    For shame!

    "Ubisoft."

    Na, I'm good mate.

Remember when JC casually dropped that Avatar would be the first 3d game after rambling on about the film for what felt like decades? I was expecting there to be a Holo Lens announcement at the end of that. No such luck.
  • Ubisoft is the most promising thing about the video.

    That does not bode well.
I'm still great and you still love it.
  • Actually, this stuff might be better as games than it was as a film.

They did a shit-ton of worldbuilding and background for the movie(s) that no bugger cared about. Might make for a decent game world.

    Mayber.

That's why I'm interested. The first film played it very safe in terms of story so here's hoping they branch out some. I'm guessing the first was so cookie cutter to lessen the risk of putting so much money into new tech. It would be interesting to see what cinema today would be like if it had flopped.
  • 3D movies are still massive in China, most of that's on Avatar.
  • I'm struggling to remember much about Avatar.  There was a baddy in a mech suit and he wanted to cut down a tree which pissed off some tall blue people.  I think he got shot with a log.  Is that about it?

I think a red shit is worse than a blue shit.

Avatar is the worst film ever.

    This.
  • Avatar was a pile of shite.
  • Molyneux levels of BS in that video as well.
  • Who would've thought that Unobtanium was difficult to source?
  • I've spent the whole thread thinking this was a sequel to that cartoon thing.
  • There already was a sequel to that, Legend of Korra. Both of them are a far stretch better than a lot of adult TV, and they make the James Cameron movie look like the scribbling of a toddler.
  • I went into Avatar thinking it was the cartoon, and came out incredibly confused at how it was connected.
  • Ah yeah I remember the Korra thing now. Never watched either of them. There was only one live action film tho? All western mans + chow yun fat
  • M. Night Shyamalan directed and produced too. A fucking shambles of a film by all accounts.
  • I think I saw 15 mins on telly once and made the quick summation of car crash, then hopped it over to come dine with me.
  • I know a guy who worked on the game tie-in for that Airbender film.
Apparently M Night insisted the game followed the plot and look of the movie but refused to give THQ any plot details, concept art or on set photos.
    Total cluster fuck.
  • Amazing how he thought he should have the authority over the people who wrote the fucking show.
  • So... how did they do anything? Did they find a copy of Empire with a behind the scenes look?
  • He was eventually convinced to share. They started off just trying to do other stuff that didn't rely too heavily on it.
A lot went in the bin though.
  • I don't think a game tie-in to the movie ever happened, the only games I know of are based on the series, including that famous easy 1000G for the 360

Edit: fuck i stand corrected, it happened, haha

I loved Avatar and Korra (or the first series at least).

Up there with the best TV has to offer full stop.

    The film was an abomination.

  • Sidetracking into random essay stuff I did this week but when advocating for Korra in an essay a quote I found said that Children's TV should in some way prepare kids for 'quality adult television' - but given the recent glut of top quality 'toons for kids I think a lot of them will grow up into a lack.
