Spider-Man
  • I'm thinking I should stop playing, book a week off work and pick up some weed in order to properly enjoy this. It all feels a bit like I'm just going through the motions. Perhaps I'm done with traditional style computer games.
  • Man if your not enjoying it, you went physical,  sell it to a badger
    The Forum Herald™
  • I'm enjoying it, just nowhere near as much as everyone else seems to be. If I were to sell it, it'd be in order to get a digital copy and I doubt anyone would want to buy it off me for enough to make that worthwhile when it'll be available in Cex for a score soon enough, even with the pre-order code thrown in.

  • They recorded 2 versions of all of Spidey’s dialog, one for if he’s casual and one for if he’s swinging through the city and exerting himself. Noice.

Mate, I was doing exactly the same but felt I was going to burn out before I'd seen the story. Now I'm doing a few story then a few side guff stuff and it's much better.

Not that I'm trying to tell you how to play, just don't want you to get sick of it as the story and side missions are the best stuff.

I hope you've been remembering to pick up all issues of the Daily Bugle, then.
  • Strangely the combat seems to be getting easier the more unlocks are unlocked

The swinging is coming to me though there’s a lot of depth to it.

    Pfft.
  • I really don't know what more you want from it.
  • The fighting is pretty easy after about level 20. There's a perk that gives you focus for shooting webs which cranks up your focus bar ridiculously quickly. You can end fights with thugs just by jumping in the middle of them and pressing R3 and L3. I'm tempted to ramp up the difficulty setting but on the other hand, there are a lot of fights in this and the crimes become a bit tedious if they get dragged out. For now, I've just settled on not using some of the more powerful stuff for the big fights.

Does anyone know when challenge tokens unlock? I've just finished the story bit where

Yeah, you can dive down to collect more speed before pressing R2 to swing to collect more speed. And with a double press of X you can manouvere through tight bits.

  • I really don't know what more you want from it.

Little, of anything, that could be implemented while keeping it accessible. I'd like to be using webs to change direction, not just pick a direction and go in it without thought. It should be possible to swing under a bridge and then land on top of it in one fluid motion without soaring into the sky, for example.

I'm not displeased with what's there, I'm just taking issue with such a streamlined and stripped back system being described as having a lot of depth.
  • Just a handful more, monkey.

Double X? I've not noticed that. What does it do?

  • It allows you to shoot forward without losing height twice in a row to get through low areas or navigate tricky sections without doing a full swing..

I think they could possibly have an advanced mode but I think the stuff your suggesting re-direction change would make it to difficult to do the chase sequences at the speed they are for most people.

You can nearly always L2+R2 to land on top of something.

I think based on the large number of people that are going to play they've nailed the swinging. It feels pleasing realistic without being an actual simulation because lets face it it's about making you feel like  a super hero not actually being one.

  • I think the swinging is perfect, myself. Yes it is a bit automatic in some regards I guess, but then as Bob said it makes you feel like a superhero.

Pressing x on the top of a swing to gain height and do some flips, then dive bombing and swinging again just before you hit the ground, it just feels effortlessly cool.

Edit: can you imagine if it worked like the ninja rope in worms? That’s be pretty funny.

I thought that unlockable just showed them on the map? I'll have a go at what you mention and see what happens.

And, for the record, swinging along at street level as fast as you can go is the coolest thing you can do swinging-wise. Bonus points for chaining in a run across the top of a row of vans.

  • Guess we'll find out for sure this evening.

For the crazy, there's a new game plus mode incoming:

    https://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2018-09-11-spider-man-is-getting-a-new-game-plus-update
  • My main complaint would be the usual over gamification of games.. Does everything need XP? Does it need XP, Suits, Suit up grades, gadgets and three lines of XP upgrades.. What happened to unlocking a new move now and again .. it also leads most games to being at their best right at the end.. which i Guess is where NG+ has become a thing.

  • The suits are necessary, though I'd like them in a wardrobe like in Amazing Spider-Man 2 or something. I need tangible things to show my progress.

On another note, Octavius is 100% the best thing about the story so far.
