Back in the 2600 days, Space Invaders was the reason to get one.

NES was SMB1. SMB3 qualifies too.

Pilotwings swung it for me in the MD/SNES days when I had to pick one console. SMW or YI qualify. I'm guessing SF2 sold a pile.

MD was bought to play Sonic 1 . I'd say that still stands. MM 96 qualifies too.

I bought a PS1 to play Parappa the Rapper. Wipeout 2097 or 3SE qualifies.

N64 was to play SM64 but I'd say F-Zero X qualifies too. I'm guessing Goldeneye sold a pile.

Saturn was bought to play 2D shmups. Radiant Silvergun would be one worth the purchase.

Bought a PS2 to play RType Final and Gradius V. I'd say either still qualify.

Gamecube was for Super Monkey Ball. Still stands. F-Zero GX would be another reason.

Dreamcast - I'd say Daytona, Bangai-O or Typing of the Dead.

Wii is Super Mario Galaxy. I'd put Mario Kart Wii up there too.

360 was bought to play Cave shooters. Mushi Futari makes it worth the purchase.

PC-wise - Doom / Doom 2 was the gaming reason back in the day. MAME does it now for me.

Best thing on the console, and I completely forgot it was a launch title. Think I opted for that and Rogue Squadron, and sold on the Star Wars game pretty quickly. SMB was everything.
