Borderlands: 3 + all things Blands
  • It’s only a boggo low-spec thing.

  • Nah PC mate

    You have a pc?
  • Y'know, I hadn't considered for a second that I wouldn't get on with this. Wasn't an issue. It's Blands and I was gonna love it. But then I played it and damn, I couldn't get into it at all. The characters, the story, the missions, nothing was clicking besides the shooting and movement.

So I started again with Amara and ditched Zane, and then I got to a part of the story around 3 1/2 hours in (I was level 9 or 10) where everything all of a sudden seemed to shift up a gear, and in the hours since then (now level 16) I've been having an absolute blast.

The guns are great, Brawl Amara's great, the main story missions and the latter locations are great. It's all feeling pretty great.

I'm not entirely sure what was going on in the opening few hours, maybe it was just me, but I'm properly in it now.

I've gone Brawl Amara too. I'm currently doing +240% melee damage, regen health at an insane speed and can two punch non-shielded enemies. Level 23 after hammering it this weekend and have an all legendary loadout bar one weapon.

Game.is genuinely immense, of course if you're not a fan of Borderlands you probably wont get on with it but there are so.many QOL improvements, movement and gunplay is vastly improved.

All.the reviews slating the humour, well, its just typical Blands humour. Puerile, stupid, idiotic throughout. I've enjoyed the writing and voice acting pretty much all the way through.

The protagonists aren't on a Handsome Jack level, he was an incredible character, but they're interesting enough.

Moving it away from Pandora was much needed as there's such a variety of locales and enemies now.

Sure Randy is a cunt and Gearbox isnt the best game dev, but fuck me they've made the game that is perfect for my tastes.

I know many of you wont play it, for various reasons, but this game is gonna consume me.

Borderlands 2 holds a very dear place in my heart for reasons I've never divulged on here and it's more than just a loot shooter brainless piece of entertainment for me. To finally get the sequel and for it to eclipse that and make me smile the entire weekend, well fuck damn I'm a happy lad.
  • Glad it didn’t disappoint.

Running lovely on the Xbox. Really enjoying it on the quality graphics setting. No stuttter and only a little slow down on the action skills menus.

In other news Epic Games have so far said to me that they won’t refund as I exceeded their 120 minute “play” time limit by 10 minutes. Ffs. I have responded that most of that time was not spent “playing” but struggling to actually do so.

  • It’s nice to see you back Louie. Been a while.

  • Anyone got past Gigamind yet? Think I need to go back and grind a few levels more, I'm only 10 to his thirteen.

This is Borderlands 2.5 though isn't it? Technically things haven't moved on at all. No environmental damage tech, so all those post apocalyptic shacks (with those blacked-out doors!) can't be destroyed. You've got ordinance at your fingertips that would make North Korea blush, but you can't blow up anything!

It wasn't until I hit my thirties that I realised you could unlock rewards by exploring the map

It has yes. It’s nice to be kicking back and playing a few games for games sake. Thanks G.

Tell em the game wasn't playable despite meeting the minimum spec, or something. Devs and publishers should be accountable for releasing games in such poorly optimised states.

According to the Eurogamer DF video, changing the view doesn’t really do anything.

  • News of its instability (across all platforms) was widespread. But it didn't stop me (and thousands of others) buying it. It's that new game itch you've got to scratch, even if it does lead to redness and unnecessary sores.

Was it CVG or Games TM that had mini scores for gameplay, graphics, etc then totalled them all up for a final score? Whoever it was, they need to bring that back pronto along with a new sub score for bugs & performance issues. Too many reviewers just 'forget' to mention them.

Especially the reviews of this one, as only a few places had early review code.

The pc version was supposedly nowhere near the final version, dunno how true that is.

  • Anyone settled on a preferred weapon manufacturer or weapon archetype for levelling?

I'll use whatever I get, obvs, but I'm especially enjoying the Jakob's revolvers and semi-auto rifles in this. They're not as flashy as other brands, but bloody hell they're so satisfying to use, especially with that crit perk. Rifle for range, switch to a revolver with bayonet for up close. Godly.

Just hit level 8 and yet to use any of my perks.. I've gone with Gunner. Any tips?

It's not quite grabbed me yet. The opening could be DLC from the last game.

  • I felt exactly the same, was pretty disappointed with the opening few hours. But then, not far from where you currently are, it all shifts up a gear or two and it just doesn't stop.

    Loving it.

A general Moze overview in the first vid (Ryan is a bit dull to listen to though), and a more specialised high splash damage / high sustain build with the Demo Woman tree from Arekkz in the second.

  • I am playing as Zane and, unless I am missing something, is there a way to project my digital self to a specific point? Each time I activate hologram it just spawns beside me. Can't I target it to spawn at a precise location so I can use it to aggro distant mobs etc?

  • Turns out its friday night I'm available.

On to the third planet.. not really feeling the side missions so been ploughing through the story.

It's much better world building than 2. Lots more reasons to explore off the beaten track and just wander around. Not really found any good guns yet though.

borderlands 3 - a review without even playing it

I caned borderlands 1. Elm took me to a specific area where I had to stand for an achievement to unlock. It was amazing.
I was there for the meme boy era. I did angry cat, Nyan Nyan, trogdor, all of them. Memes are funny and I like them.
Borderlands 2 was a little messier but god I tanned it. Every dlc, every time I could get a shift key, let's do it.

borderlands 3 feels stuck in 2012. I don't need to play it, I know how it feels. I don't need to hear the claptrap memes, I've heard them. What an absolute shame it is that the coolest game on the planet couldn't evolve. More-derlands doesn't cut it when you're 10 years at the og game. Pitchford et Al deserve maximum stick for sitting with their trotters up expecting people to want more of the same. It's an absolute shame and they should feel like charlatans.

Then that's fine dont play it.
  • Absolute nonsense. They should feel like charlatans for regurgitating a formula?

Nothing wrong with Moar of the Same. It would have been cool they'd gone big or different, but to say they deserve maximum stick, have their trotters up, and are charlatans?

Surely you're letting your opinions of randy Randy Pitchford colour your thinking on this?
  • Edit - Didn't mean to sound as harsh as that comes across.
