UNLESS you want to store a shit tonne of media on it.

Can you stream media? I suppose you can at least pop it on and off to watch a single thing?

It has a native streaming app and free dnla streaming apps.
I sat on the edge of a moon crater watching an episode of band of brothers streaming from my server last week.
    It was amaze.

  • Ok, I have a fast home network and a Plex server that’s DNLA compatible, so 64GB it is.

The existing experiences sound incredible; but please someone make Rez Infinite happen!’
  • I was playing Beat Saber the other day dreaming of Rez Infinite.

I have absolutely no clue why this is a thing I’d have any interest in doing.

I tried big screen cos a mate was raving about it. Not for me. Watching 2d media in VR when I can just watch my tv and be able to have a drink or something to eat, seems pointless. Only thing I thought it would be good for is lying in bed with TV on the virtual ceiling but then you fall asleep with a mask strapped to your face.
  • I managed to get custom songs into Beat Saber so I'm delighted. An already awesome game has become significantly awesomer.

  • I didn't expect to see Jimmy Nail in the Quest thread, but there he is.
  • Hnnnng, I cracked open my money box and have enough for one of these. 64gb huh. Nobody has gone for the 128?
  • What are you gonna use it on the plane for? Movies?
Therein hangs a wee tale which I will recount one FNF.

    Can't wait! :D
  • Yodel have mine in the van for delivery, currently scheduled for dropoff exactly around the time my wife will be out of the house, natch.

Yodel? They'd probably leave it without knocking anyway.

As panty said, unless you're planning to ram it full of 10GB VR porn files, 64GB seems plenty.

Speaking of big things in your face, finally caught up with Ant-Man reclined on this splendid hotel furnishing late last night

    84ehZJH.jpg?1

and the stereoscopic experience was superb - almost as good as IMAX 3D (ain't no doubt)

Seriously thinking of getting some prescription lenses for the Quest. $103.50 including delivery which is much cheaper than a Cineworld card - and their IMAX tax on top.

  • Okay, that’s really interesting. Opens things up for accessibility and comfort.

I managed it today as well.

  • Great. How did you do it? I ended up using a work-in-progress method from a guy on the Beat Saber modding Discord. Works a charm.

Amazon didn't have the 64gb one so I went the 128.....
It was a weaker moment that will hopefully pay off in the long term when it slowly fills with stuff

I got the new version of sidequest I linked to in here the other day. Took the quest around to my bro in law's and ran through the setup on his PC. I don't know how long I'll be waiting to get a new Mac.

Sidequest has bsaber.com already bookmarked in it.
You search your songs, download and then sync them to the quest.
    Was fairly pain free.

  • Yeah, that's the same method I was trying before it told me my OS was too old. The new method allows you to do it entirely within the headset. So no PC or Mac required at all (apart from putting the actual program on the Quest).

SHABBA welcome aboard the VR train, name added to the SOB and as my nan used to say, going large has benefits.
retroking1981: Fuck this place I'm off to the pub.
  • My only slight grumble with the Beat Saber custom tracks is that a lot of them only have expert difficulty and that's way beyond my sense of rhythm and timing! There's also an awful lot of j-pop.

    Ooh please tell.
I don't want to be going around to my bros in the foreseeable future.

And yeh so much anime and K-pop crap.

  • It's this little program here called Beat On. Download the apk and drop into your Quest using Side Quest.

    https://github.com/emulamer/BeatOn/releases/tag/0.0.3

Then follow this video of the dev showing exactly what to do:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WxwO8LCR8_E

I was a little hesitant as he says on the Discord it's very much a work in progress, use at your own risk sort of thing. But I gave it a go and, apart from the program crashing a bit, it's so far worked perfectly.

I have no idea how the hell it works. It launches from the Oculus TV app within the Quest.
  • But how did you get it sideloaded if you couldn't use sidequest because of your OS?

    Hey?
    Hey?
    Mr Boris Johnson, answer that!!!!
    Live= sgt pantyfire    PSN= pantyfire
  • Ha! I can use Side Quest just fine (that's how I got Quake Quest running), it's the Beast Saber app within it that doesn't work. It gets to a certain point then fails. I asked the dev himself and he said it's needs at least 10.12

It's kind of hard to explain without experiencing it but the screen is cinema sized. Way bigger than your big TV in your living room.
And there's also the childlike sense of wonder from sitting on the viewing deck of space station orbiting Jupiter while watching a movie.
If that doesn't tickle your nerd spleen then you are dead in side, dead and there's no hope for the patient.

It's the little moments that stack up. I remember turning to my right, seeing the moon lander and feeling like a clanger.
