I’m sure other retailers will open orders soon.....
  • Lol. Sony was all "don't worry about preorders, we won't give you a minutes notice"
I'm falling apart to songs about hips and hearts...
  • Basically, I feel really well catered for re. next gen machines and price points.

    I’m happy with all this.

    Me too buddy.

  • Sony have been quite deliberately misleading in that presentation and in the media for last few months. Talking about generations, presenting the games as ps5 ones now several big ones are available on ps4 as well.

Microsoft currently have more next gen exclusive games announced than Sony do
I'm falling apart to songs about hips and hearts...

Well, whenever I mention gamepass to B he starts frothing at the mouth, and not in a good way. I don't really want to listen to his speech again about why he thinks it's stupid.

So while the S looks good and the X sounds like some good hardware, I'll probably stick with pc for as long as possible. Got a new one this year anyway.

PS5 will have more interesting titles for me in the long run, but it's not wanting me to go through the pain of pre ordering. I'll get that as soon as I can choose "pick up in store" on the Best Buy website. I need to beat Bloodborne first anyway, as it looks like Demon's Souls is the most interesting at launch.

GAME pass is really fucking good, like, really (the fact I've got a young child that will sometimes play a game she "really really wants" twice might be influencing my opinion, but I really like it for me too).
  • This is the full press release:
Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) today announced launch date and price details for its highly anticipated next-generation videogame system, PlayStation®5. SIE also revealed new updates to the PS5™ game portfolio, including Final Fantasy XVI, Fortnite, Hogwarts Legacy, and a new God of War title.

On November 12, PS5 will launch in seven key markets: the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand, Japan and South Korea. The global rollout will continue on November 19 with launches throughout the rest of the world*, including Europe, Middle East, South America, Asia and South Africa. The PS5 Digital Edition will be available for a recommended retail price (RRP) of £359.99, and PS5 with an Ultra HD Blu-ray™ disc drive will be available for an RRP of £449.99. Pre-orders will be available starting as early as tomorrow at select retailers.

Both PS5 models use the same custom processor with integrated CPU and GPU for high-fidelity graphics up to 4K, as well as the same ultra-high speed SSD with integrated I/O that will deliver lightning-fast loading. Both PS5 models also offer a deepened sense of immersion through the DualSense wireless controller and 3D audio capabilities, so players will enjoy the same transformative gameplay experiences regardless of which PS5 they choose.

“Since we first announced our next generation console last year, we have received astounding support from developers and gaming fans all around the world, and it’s truly humbling,” said Jim Ryan, president and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment. “Now we are just a couple of months away from launching PS5, which will offer a new generation of experiences that go beyond players’ expectations of how games can look, feel, sound, and play. We can’t wait for our fans to experience for themselves the incredible speed, the heightened immersion and the breathtaking games on PS5 when we launch this November.”

Adding to its growing games portfolio, SIE today unveiled several new titles coming to PS5, including:
[ul][li]Devil May Cry 5™ Special Edition (Capcom)[/li][li]Final Fantasy XVI (Square Enix) [/li][li]Five Nights at Freddy’s Security Breach (Steel Wool Studios and ScottGames)[/li][li]Hogwarts Legacy (Warner Bros. Games)[/li][li]A new God of War title (Santa Monica Studio)[/li][/ul]
With titles such as Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, and Demon’s Souls, the breadth of unique gaming experiences coming to PS5 represent the best lineup in PlayStation history. Exclusive titles from SIE Worldwide Studios will be priced at launch from US$49.99 to US$69.99 (RRP) on PS5.

To support the PlayStation®4 community as they transition to the next generation when they’re ready, SIE will launch PS4™ versions of a few exclusive titles: Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Sackboy A Big Adventure, and Horizon Forbidden West. While these three games were designed to take advantage of PS5 and its unique next-gen features like the ultra-high speed SSD and DualSense controller, PS4 owners will also be able to enjoy these experiences when they launch. The PS4 digital versions of launch games include a free upgrade on both PS5 consoles, while the PS4 disc versions of these games include a free upgrade on the PS5 with Ultra HD Blu-Ray disc drive.

In addition, SIE today revealed the PlayStation Plus Collection**, a curated lineup of PS4 games that defined the generation, which will be available to PS Plus members to download and play on PS5. The PS Plus Collection features critically acclaimed games, including Batman™ Arkham Knight, Bloodborne, Fallout 4, God of War, Monster Hunter: World, Persona 5 and many more.

SIE also announced the price for the following accessories that will launch alongside the PS5 console:

  • Hmmmm, interesting that the new Horizon is gonna be on PS4 as well considering how snazzy the trailer looked. A shame it hasn't been designed to make full use of the ps5 architecture. I wonder if it will be a reduced PS4 experience or if it will just be a smoother running version of a PS4 game.

    Expensive games though!
  • I wouldn't buy the John Wayne Bobbit.

    Yes.
@£59-70 a game there's very very rarely a game I will buy and keep for an entire generation.
Trade those fuckers in instead and get money of the next £70 game.

  • I wouldn't be thinking of getting any of these things yet if it wasn't for work. I'll need something that's up to date. I also wouldn't be thinking of going discless under normal circumstances, but it would suit my current situation.

But as things are, yeah, I'll probably get one shortly after launch.
  • In my humble opinion you’d have to be mad to get the digital only, prices are nuts and will be for some time. Gonna nip into game this morn to hopefully pre-order the full dick version. Though I did think everything coming out of last night was hilarious.

Gamepass makes Xbox discless seem more sensible (IMO). But still risky cos you're signing up to a monopoly (though I guess cdkeys etc help a little). Think it would have to be full fat PS5 for me tho, BC, cheaper games, swappe shoppe all likely mean it'll be cheaper in due course. And Blu-ray/dvd movies too.

How are preorders working? Paying not till November, right??

I think you look at Sony's current slate of first-party games, very high-end single-player experiences with little potential for recurring purchases, and understand why they aren't going down the Game Pass route but then their launch slate for PS5 is filled with PS4 games and old games and stuff and you don't quite get that feeling of paying full price for premium games compared to, say, paying full whack for TLOUII recently.

Agree, but only because a) the console is so cheap and b) I'll be getting a disk PS5 at some point.

With the way the systems work at present if you own both consoles I can't see a reason to ever actually buy anything on the digital Xbox anyway.
  • They should've included that PS+ thing free for 6 months to entice people in if they're not going to make it available for PS4 owners.

  • Have they said how much PSplus is going to cost on the PS5? I don't see it mentioned in their press release. How much is it on PS4 just now?

Think I paid £40 for the year they had a deal on at £35 in the Summer Sale.
  • That's alright. Be interesting to see if the price goes up for the PS5 version though. They really should be including a 6 months or 1 year free sub in the box imo.

I think it would be great if they bundled Now with it and gave it a discount (maybe £60 the lot). Apple have just done it with their services and they’ll sell a ton.

I suspect he's not thinking about it from a consumer point of view given his job.

  • If you want to pre order it might be worth winging your way to a local game.

Game Cardiff has forty normal consoles left.

I would have expected them to have been gone already if I’m honest.

I’m gonna see what’s what on Saturday to buy accessories but if they have any consoles available.
