Do Boardgames Dream of Miniature Porn?
  • I know Jedi primes cos I asked. I dunno what the coverage issue is, perhaps not waiting for dry times? I fall foul of that a lot.

You should always prime though, unless you’re some kind of god. I know a lot of competition painters don’t prime because they don’t want to obscure any detail, but they also never touch their model at any point, ever, until they’ve varnished it.

Ah! I thought they might not have been primed because I thought I could see blue plastic, but it's only the marines that are blue.

I want an airbrush for base coating to sort out obscuring detail issues. I'm trying to paint every day, and if I can keep it up until Christmas I'll have a think about treating myself.

Are those from the conquest magazine? I have up to issue 6, with only issue 1 painted so far. I've been doing some Escher gangers since they were completed, so not making any progress....

It looks like you've applied your base coat directly to the plastic. I'm not sure if this is wrong these days, as no one talks about undercoating with primer. Are the base paints sufficient?

Once those guys have painted bases they will look great.
Yup from the magazine.picked up the psychic librarian issue yesterday.
Nope I have a can of spray primer. It happens to be the same blue as the plastic funnily enough. It's Army Paint brand I think

So.... Who here licks there brushes to get a good tip? Everyone does right? It's only in the gw videos that it doesn't happen, and even then I bet it does off camera.
  • Librarian for £8.99 is absurd considering they’re £22.50 at GW.

I might keep an eye out for when they do the Blight-Hauler again as it’ll be a cheap way to fill out the tri-lobe for my Death Guard.
  • I've got my eye on all the terrain. I have no idea where it's sold other than direct though.
  • The mag? WHsmiths and Co-op have been go to places from people I've heard from. You should be able to order direct from their site, as well as newsagents too.
  • I just want to buy all the things but I've got to be realistic. I hardly play any of the games and have no more space for display. Bah!

  • Looking to get into Mini Skirmish type game and my mate fancies Malifaux, does anyone know the best way to start ? Some recommend the Starter Set but others don’t.

Also anyone recommend anything similar? Don’t fancy too much of an outlay to start with.

    Ps. I’ve already got Shadespire

Song of Blades are Heroes is a good option. You can get a 15mm(shut it Tempy) warband for like £5. Base them on pennies, good to go.

    http://www.ralparthaeurope.co.uk/shop/blighthaven-15mm-warbands-c-119/warbands-c-119_120/

I can send you the rulebook.
  • Have you seen Blackstone Fortress Frantic? Gonna Drop Dolla on that.
  • That looks great, apart from the two chaos space marines which I'm not personally a fan of. I'm going to give it a miss though.

The chaos demon game that's got the new dogs and fiends is a day one purchase though. No idea why I need the plastic sitting in my house unpainted, I just do.

So I was reading about this today and it really piqued my interest. It seems to have everything I'd want from a game in one package, now if I only had people to play with and any ability to paint miniatures it'd be perfect.
  • You can play it solo...
  • I saw that. It does look ace.
  • So it's been 5 years, but some_guy and I managed some dominion again on Melbourne cup day. (yes, I am the board game equivalent of an iron maiden fan who doesn't listen to anything else.)

Had to see what else was out there in dominion land, so picked up empires yesterday.

Some drastic options for changing victory point tactics.

Need to look for storage options though. It's getting silly.
I'm still great and you still love it.

Got round to doing another 15mm warband for Advanced Song of Blades and Heroes. Lizardmen plus Ogre Mercenary. Proper fiddly painting these, the teeny little bastards.

They have lovely character for such small sculpts, imo.

The game is great. Fast, brutal and fun. Did a four way fight over treasure last night. Absolute bloodbath. Love it.

  • Really like that stuff Frantic, can't imagine painting at that scale though, it's nightmarishly small. Very expressive for the size though, like you say.

I played Blackstone Fortress today for the first time. Me, Ev, two pals.

Hot dang, that is a good game. They've really nailed it. Almost everything is simple and logical, except perhaps for remember which group your enemies are from when stuff gets mixed up, but that's a minor thing.

The majority of the game is slick, compelling, smart and intuitive. The premise is ace too - from a staging station you descend into the labyrinth of the Blackstone Fortress and work your way through encounter cards which are an equal mix of challenges and combat encounters, the former being small events and the later being hex-based combat sequences. There's so much to do during a combat round, and it plas a lot like descent: enemies spawn and your job is to kill and explore, whilst trying to free up a route to a portal where you can summon an exit.

After each encounter you can chose to return to Precipice, but if you do so the game ticks on by one Legacy card, of which there only a limited amount. When they're gone, the quest is over for good. Each encounter gives you a chance to get clues, and for every four clues you can tackle one of the four Strongholds that surround the central vault of the Fortress. When they're conquered, you can tackle the final vault and upon your success you can open a little envelope with a secret in it.

I had no idea it was so involved, it's a whole little mini RPG in a box with some gorgeous miniatures and plenty of scope for expansions at a later date. One encounter took us 2 hours, but by the end of the first round we were 100% clear on all of the rules, and our little mixed group of adventurers had a real fun time.

Also look how slick it looks! image0.jpg

Can't wait to get painting our heroes, and given how shit stuff has been recently, it might be the mental break I need.

  • Traitor Guardsmen, bastards that have defected to the side of the Chaos gods for glory and shit.
  • Here are a few in progress. Completely fucked Calsius though.

Bought one of the daughters You've Got Crabs for Christmas with the expansion kit which includes latex crab claws to wear.  Looks gloriously daft as a game.
