Mascarade is a good game for larger groups :) I think it's up to 12/13 players. Over Christmas we got Azul too and had a great first game of Takenoko, such a cool, simple game.

This seems like an amazing deal (albeit potentially in French) for the Carcassone Big Box:

I got Just One for crimbo but yet to play it. Also got some Amazon vouchers so eyeing up a couple of other new games for that.

It's very different. Dexterity /tile laying game where you smash a huge dice in various different ways into a pile of tiles to flip them over and give you choice to build your firework display. It's silly fun.

Had some great games of KeyForge last night. Really loving this game and the amusing, inadvertent combos that kick off.

    My mate played this:

    15drtzs.jpg

It was causing me all sorts of hurt with his Brobnar creatures wreaking havoc. Unfortunately for him, I have two Time Travellers in my deck.

    zhad.jpg

Not an amazingly powerful card, but the fact I was playing it ready, getting an Aember, drawing 2 more cards and then using his Action to shuffle it back into my deck was perfect.

This became more frustrating for him because my deck literally hammers through to a reshuffle, so when my draw pile was low I was shuffling them back in and drawing one next turn for about 6 turns in a row.

I don't think me humming Quantum Leap every time was helping :)

Anyway, I was swimming in Aember constantly and he couldn't keep up.... especially seeing as I also have two of these:

    t8srv6.png

.... and ways to archive said card from my discard pile.

I barely had a board presence through the game, just using artifacts, time traveller's and board wipes to control his motley crew of Brobnar beasts.

So fun. Was still a close game but man, my mate was tearing his hair out.

"That fucking time travelling bastard AGAIN AAAEEGGGHHHHH"

    *hums Quantum Leap*
  • Keyforge is fun, and I'm running with Brodnan, untamed and Martian for my main deck. What's interesting is that just by the shuffle of the deck, can have such a huge difference to how the game plays out. At the same time my friend played tonight for the first time and totally hate it because he seemed to be powerless.

Also been playing root a lot and its absolutely fantastic. Love how asymmetrical the factions are and it's pretty much the favourite of the year for me.

I'm salty as fuck about all my mates playing this instead of Netrunner.

I don't like the deck purchasing mechanism. A mate has a deck that's just leagues above anything else we have. Probably have about 15 between us but nothing has come close.

Also that library access loop bullshit into mid-turn key generation can fuck right off.
It's a goddamn snoozefest out there.

Haven't come across an OP deck yet, but I'm sure they're out there. It'd be pretty incredible if they weren't. The handicap is worth trying though.

We probably have about 20 decks between us at club and they're all pretty close games.

I have a deck I considered garbage but after a few more plays with it I figured out it's strengths and weaknesses.

Had some more games tonight and every game was tight AF.

Tempo, if you're still after a good 2 player I played a few games of Thunder and Lightning for the first time and instantly fell in love.

Thor vs Loki. You have cards facedown in a battle line, and up to four rows of three cards. Some cards are creatures with strength values, some are just cards played for effects. Some cards can only be defeated by specific other cards, for example a shield wall can only be defeated by archers.

You win by clearing your opponents battlefield, or challenging either Odins ring or crown(one card in their deck) , depending on if you're playing Loki or Thor.

This isn't a great explanation, it's a hard thing to describe. But fuck me, talk about bluffing, double bluffing, triple bluffing. Your opponent reveals a shield wall of yours and then slips a card facedown onto the battlefield opposite. Have they just played an archer? Or do they want me to think they have? It's a simple game but the card effects just make it shine.

    Its an absolute cracker.

I think it's really nice looking too.

Chains only affect drawing cards at the end of your turn. This combo repeatedly cycles through the whole deck multiple times in the same turn, playing cards that gain aember and then you just play a card that allows to create a key immediately.

Its horseshit but true, doesn't happen often.
It's a goddamn snoozefest out there.
  • Cheers for the Thunder and Lightning write up Pea, it does sound ace!

We picked up two more Keyforge decks. Something fucky about true randomness eh?
My first deck: Brobnar, Dis, Untamed. My second deck: Brobnar, Dis, Shadows.
Ev's first deck: Brobnar, Untamed, Mars. Ev's second deck: Brobnar, Untamed, Shadows.

Anyway. on one turn Ev used this insane Untamed card to get 4 Amber, and give me 2.

    core-321.jpg

She ended that turn on 9 amber to my 0, before I used this Shadow card to steal a bunch of it:

    core-267.jpg

    Utterly glorious.

Later in the game I had the most insane turn though. Ev had two amber, I think I had 4 amber? The board state was as follows: Ev has one creature with 3 HP, I have a bunch of creatures at various HP, but importantly I have a Brobnar creature with 5 HP that had captured one of her amber much earlier in the game.

I also had 2 of these in my hand

    core-270.jpg

    And one of these.
    core-276.jpg

I also had the following artifacts

    2x
    core-024.jpg

    core-290.jpg

You can probably do the maths, but it went like this: I played Shadow. I used Nerve Blast to deal 2 damage to every creature, stealing one amber. Ev has 1, I now have 5. Then I used my first Ghostly hand, gaining 2 amber from play, and stealing her 1 amber. Ev now has 0 amber and I have 8. I then use Seeker Needle to gain 1 amber. I now have 9 amber and Ev has 0. But how do I get even more? Well. I am glad you asked. I used both of my Might Javelins as they are Omni, killing my own creature which gives Ev back the amber I had captured. I then used my second Ghostly Hand to gain 2 amber, steal and that single amber back. I now have 12 amber. I won.

  • I really like Dis, both in art and concept, but i’ve never had a deck that really works off them, they seem to be there for the dead turns.

Yeh I'm pretty sure their algorithms do a main and two support factions, if that makes sense. That's how my decks seem to be anyway. Maybe I'm wrong, just feels that way.

I have a Dis deck that feels like the main faction. It's nasty AF, but vulnerable to board wipes and stealing.

I have two decks so far, only managed to play a few times so i'm not 100% sure of their quality.
The deck with Mars in doesn't seem to work great though – never seem to have enough Mars creatures in hand to make their combos work... Am I just inexperienced or is it a poor deck? Who knows right now ha.
  • I bought my friend the Binding of Isaac Four Souls game. We played a short game trying to learn the rules tonight and it seems really fun.

Plays a lot like the video game where you collect active and passive abilities and also in that you can die easily and also the game can end quickly as it's first to collect four souls.

Takes a little too get your head around the flow of the game and how you can interact with (and fuck around with) other players turns by stacking abilities but it seems like it will be lots of fun when it gets going. There's a lot of bartering and deal making you can do.

  • What does the Snickers do
  • Played a bunch more dominion adventures yesterday.

Some really cool mechanics in there.

The tavern mat is awesome. Basically, there's a bunch of cards and rules that let you just leave stuff on the tavern mat when you need it. Victory cards out of your hand, copper that's usable, but not clogging deck. Free trashing options.

There's return of duration cards from seaside too, which can be fun.

Plus there's cards that you can upgrade 5 times throughout a game. Very very cool.

And landmarks and events from adventures and empire add a ncie wrinkle too.

Adventures, even more than empire can be confusing as fuck. Certain combos of cards are just mind bending.
I'm still great and you still love it.

People at club are getting into it, and I rather like the ruleset.

Unfortunately this means I may be losing my sanity and actually considering building my own army, which in turn means painting about 50-80 minis.

    Sigh.
