Also, some of those are multiplat games. What a SHAM
• I'll be studying it shortly, with tabs open all over the shop.  Excite.
• I knew Volgarr would drop.  Oh well, was well worth £7.99.  Finished it, loved it.  £2.49 on Plus, crossbuy too.  Dust off your Vitas and treat yourselves, g'wan.
• I have the disc version of DriveClub and all the season pass stuff and extra packs like Bikes. If I buy the digital version, so I have to rebuy all the addons again to go with the digital version? They should introduce the ability to pay a fiver or so to upgrade from media to digital to save you getting up off your arse and changing the discs.

• Wouldn't everyone chip in with their mates for one disc and pass it round so you'd get every game for a tenner?

I don't think it works like that. As all the dlc is downloadable and not on the disc, the base digital game will do a search for the dlc that you already have and load it up, you won't have to buy it again. Streetfighter V works that way anyhow!

Obviously there would be some kind of authentication or security restriction in place to prevent that. Even a monthly/random disc check or something.

• Hmm,sounds a bit like what Microsoft wanted to do at the start of this generation but the backlash was too much?
Unless someone very obviously insults your loved ones with intent, take nothing here seriously.
• That's almost exactly what Microsoft wanted to do. It would have been a good idea, with a couple of minor modifications, but they screwed things up and got rid of it entirely instead.

I'd say the general internet reaction is what screwed it up, following my Sony saying 'oh our console doesn't have DRM'.
I'm falling apart to songs about hips and hearts...
• Doing it wrong in the first place, in order to cause that reaction was the screwing it up I was talking about.

For accuracy, PS4 definitely has DRM and Sony never claimed otherwise, just that you'd be able to resell discs, which is what the fuss was about.

I thought that the fuss was about not being able to play if you didn’t have an internet connection?

My memory is admittedly a little hazy, but I don’t think Microsoft ever said that you wouldn’t be able to resell discs, did they?

They may have said something about wanting a cut of resales, perhaps.
• There was the Internet thing, too, that's correct.
• Yeah I don't think they ever said you won't be able to resell discs? But I forget.

I really liked their idea of a shared digital library though.
I'm falling apart to songs about hips and hearts...
• I'm sure that's what I remember one of the main issues being. Guess it shows what a clusterfuck the whole thing was that we can't even agree what it was about.

Core ideas were proper sound, though, and we've missed out because of idiots.

Microsoft wanted the disc tied to the console so resale wouldn't be possible. It was basically seen as pandering to publishers rather than their customers. They backtracked when Sony said their discs would be just like they'd always been. Too late though.
• IIRC, the real issue with the Xbox was the stupid EDRAM architecture; everyone had forgotten about the discs thing after a few months. [/supernerd]
• I am personally against the idea of having media tied to an account. At that point buy it digitally.

I’ve lived off using eBay/CeX etc to find older titles from a developer. It’d be fine if they had every title available on the store forever, and all new hardware worked with the older software, but even with licensing etc that’s not feasible.
• Temporarily tying it to an account, so you don't have to put the disc in, would be awesome, though.

With the size of patches these days, you're basically just buying a physical license anyway.
