Premium pass 40% off on the bone this week. They must be having real problems with the DLC population numbers. I think I'll grab it, hopefully this is their last one.
Enjoying the new maps in this - it's absolute mayhem at times. The only annoying thing is the amount of snipers on the open maps (what's new though) and the standard issue of team mates seemingly ignorant of what the game modes actually entail.
Conquest is definitely where it's at, but Frontlines is also great fun.
I finally got on the new maps last night. Feels like they look a little nicer, the snow maybe works better as a texture on the bone. Hard to judge game play, but I had a run of good, close games. Might just be the cost working as a barrier to the ultra-casual players. Still loads of snipers, but those assignments are messing everything up just now.
From limited play time, I'd say at least two of the new maps are awful - the one with the cathedral and the big flat open one. Nothing quite to the levels of Suez awfulness though. Not happy with this voting for maps thing they added in a while back either - seems every one votes for the worst maps when they show up, particularly Suez and Vaux.
I've given up on BF for the moment until Dice fix the lag issue on the servers.
Think I've only played one map and the entire enemy team played the scout class.
They have a real sniper problem at the moment, it's not unusual to see a third of a team playing that class, and less use this time due to the lack of close range weapon choices. They should let them use the shotgun.
The new maps are actually much better than the launch maps - no edge of map elevated sniper nests for players who don't want to play the objective. Shows their map designers in a pretty bad light though.
Played some of the Operation Campaign. Seems a bit half arsed. A little bit of map cinematic with a voice over and a loot crate after grinding out so many points. There's an idea there, but it's far too long winded and repetitive and it pushes the already annoying Goliath and Elite Kits even more front and centre. It might actually be the mode I didn't care for much in the last Battlefront.
The loot crate reward didn't seem worth the effort either and I was getting decent scores, some of the low scoring players will spend days to get it on this.
Yeah, it's cosmetics and a puzzle piece for a melee weapon, which is kind of cosmetic as well. This pushes you to play the same maps over and over if you are interested though, you would need a lot of loot crates to complete the puzzle pieces.
It's maybe to push the population to those maps and keep the mode viable. Makes me wonder why they're bothering though.
They're just trying to condition players for the coming Loot Crate bait and switch apocalypse.
Get as many players as possible used to the idea, then with every new release move the goalposts a little more in the direction of pay to win.
I've been playing Frontlines this weekend, quite good, but as usual you're at the mercy of how interested your team are at PTFO. I've been in a very good squad who were simply playing to buff K/D and a lot of bad squads who think you can defend stuff from behind it.
I've no idea why DICE put so many new modes in this, there's that pigeon thing and the supposed competitive mode as well, neither of which I've looked at.
It's that time again. Makes sense to go modern, the series still has a lot of goodwill and they are in an odd spot with the names of the main series.
Not at all convinced they can deliver though. Their campaigns have been terrible for years, there's no way the current devs can deliver maps like BC2, I doubt EA have the balls to bring back no prone and a lot of the population really struggle to play Rush.
BC2 was a long time ago. If there's anybody left at DICE that even remembers it let alone worked on it, expect a reskinned mainline BF with 'characters'.
