Guys a question for you. Im having trouble today with prefabs. It seems if I instantiate one and modify some of its values, the modifications persist even after I stop running the game in the editor. I've not had this happen before, Im sure I must have done something stupid. Any ideas?
well i think i've just lost my evenings work as unity just crashed on me and took itself clean out...I was done for the night too, then i thought 'one more tweak', ran it to see if it was working...had visual studio 'attached' and it hit a breakpoint and all went pete tong.
I haven't noticed one! Scene files are usually so light that a ctrl-s is painless as to not really need an alternative. Some of the best advice I've read on scene organisation is that everything in a scene should be a prefab. Apply your changes every time you make a definite tweak and that kind of works like a backup in itself
i stayed up late and got it back how it was (i think) - if i hadn't i might never have went back 'cold' to do it again another day! it's just scene stuff that's lost, and fortunately the main scene stuff i'd done, i'd prepped a couple of prefabs so i could re-use them and they had saved....so it was really just re-positioning those and a few other tweaks and movements. there's bound to be something i missed but seems ok. fortunately, i'd spent the early part of the evening testing some things that in the end i didn't like and just removed...i think if i'd got that working and left it in, then lost it i'd have been particularly put out.
Good work Ram!!!!
I bought that mesh particle asset you recommended Gunn and am impressed! I've not fully tested etc but it certainly seems to have helped performance.
same as before really, just general updates and tweaks to the 'world'...idea is i've now 'finished' the basic circuit/scene...obviously there's room for improvement, but hopefully everything is now there that's needed for the circuit to work, look ok etc. next i'll focus on controls, UI, UX, network stuff etc...
as well as the controls before, if you press the L key it should toggle an outline mode on the graphics...would like to know what you think, which you prefer etc...
Though I did try some gamedev last night. Got a little done....but something fucked up in my java environment variables(i think). I now cant build for android and to top it off the unity - visual studios link is broken somehow. Everything as working fine, I did no unity/java updates or anything I'm boiling over in an intense fury.
Cheers trippy. Much appreciated. In response to the points you raise...
I thought most of the barriers have chevrons pointing the way...there should only be a couple of plain barriers just blocking a wrong road..I'll check again in case I've miss placed some though.
I'll rework the whole reset thing eventually, and I've fixed a couple of colliders since that may have caused your problem anyway...
Do you keep playing 'offline'? It sets the clock from the network server so that all players in a 'room' get the same time of day, but offline defaults to zero...Or it did until I changed it after uploading that build!
Thanks again though, glad you prefer the handling now. Maybe I could twist yours and some other arms into testing multiplayer at some point in the near future...
Also super...you have my sympathy with that shit, but don't let it get you down, hopefully you'll find the solution is simple soon enough...have you been using source control to be able to roll back to a working version?
Sorry to hijack the thread but Im in dire straights. Description of my issue
Can ANYONE please take a look at the question Ive posted on stack exchange? 3 days now and I cant fix it. And thats just the java problem. Not the irritation of unity refusing to open files in VS.
then there's an option somewhere to enter the explicit jdk location somewhere in unity isn't there? I did this recently and it "just worked". Will check details from pc, but it's in build options or something.
Super, have you tried creating a new unity project and just build something really simple?..that would test if it's your project with they problem or a general unity / config type thing...
Cheers! That was the first thing I tried but it gave a message saying the jdk directory I selected didn't contain a jdk. I figured unity was having the same issue as the android SDK
Ignore the android sdk as ive stupidly uninstalled it.
The error has appeared after browsing to my jdk location. Which is :
C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.8.0_102
EDIT : I think Unity is completely knackered. I opened a different project and cant import standard assets. I get error : Failed to import package with error: couldn't decompress package
I have a 2TB drive in the laptop with 1.3TB free space.
I've never experienced an issue like this before lol. Was up till half 2 last night messing with path vars and uninstalling/reinstalling, activating hidden admin user stuff etc.
