I've meant to try more but haven't yet. I did pick up a JD rye but it wasn't good enough to drink neat. One day I'll investigate further, but while the bulleit is affordable I don't see the point.
Found half a bottle of this tucked away in a cupboard last night:
It tastes fine, I think. Maybe a hint of 'gone off' about it, but that could just be me, I vaguely recollect it tasting a bit herby anyway. Anything with that much alcohol content is going to be fine after 10yrs or however long it's been, right? Wondering if the honey part goes off really. Too late now anyway, I had a generous triple tipple.
Just bought my dad a bottle of Southern Comfort 100 proof for Xmas. I now want to know what it tastes like - I used to quite like standard SoCo when I was younger.
Found an unopened bottle of Jack Daniels Tennessee Fire at the back of the cupboard. I must have been bought this some time ago.
It was opened at a recent party - my daughters' 21st "pre-going-out" party at our house when the young ones were looking for shots.
There are a lot of cinnamon flavoured drinks around. There's the vile Fireball (which one lad had brought along) and the likes of Goldschlager which turned up in Belfast around '95 but apparantly isn't available here any more.
This was nicer than any of those. Very smooth and the cinnamon flavour wasn't too powerful.
I also found a bottle of JD Apple Jack which is supposed to be heated up - will give that a try next.
I’m torn when I see that sort of thing. I love the obsessional detail and the old-world charm of a rich collector. On the other hand, it’s an obscene display of wealth and artefact of a toxic society.
There's something to be said even for someone setting aside a bottle every so often and having a collection to enjoy or flog in later life. This seems way beyond that.
£50 off my dad for Christmas, £20 Amazon voucher still burning a hole in my pocket from my bday, £30 in the wife's paypal account from selling Zelda to Three1ne. Any badger recs for a once in a lifetime level whisky for £100ish? Most I've ever spent on a bottle of anything was £72 iirc (Stagg Jr.).
Edit: I do like the stretching-it-a-bit-further thing with cask strength whisky.
Bit more niche but the Scotch Malt Whisky Soc specialises in cask-strength single malt bottlings of some renown and strictly limited editions. I picked up a 31 yo to open on my stag do next year for £99 with a discount code on my birthday. You have to be a member to buy online but if you want I can help you to order something and get it sent down to you. Membership was a brilliant Christmas present for me last year and I'm happy to be renewing it for another one Their private members' rooms are some of the nicest, quietest places to drink in Edinburgh and we're apparently getting a Glasgow one next year to boot.
If we're talking scotch, you can pick up a Glenfarclas 21, a Balvenie 17 double wood, an Aberlour 18 or a Glenfiddich 22 fro The Whisky Exchange for around that price. All are fantastic, but maybe you're looking for something a bit different?
If you could stretch the budget to £125 the Glenfarclas 25 is absolutely delicious. It's like Christmas cake in a glass, with a hint of coffee and chocolate.
Sorry, had this page loaded for ages was replying to kazou.
Uigeadail is probably my fave ever, followed by Lagavulin 16 or A'bunadh. My spelling is probably way off for all of those. The cask Glenfarclas might make my top 5.
I've got some hemp rum I can sell ye. Top stuff. I've only had a few snifters so I'll knock a bit off. Say £99.99?
