Nike has finally announced its self-lacing sneakers, HyperAdapt 1.0, will be available to buy on November 28. The catch? The futuristic shoes can only be purchased in select US stores and for a retail price of $720.
The company’s PR director Heidi Burgett tweeted that the trainers will be available at “select Nike retail locations” and appointments to “experience and purchase” will begin on 28 November, for select Nike+ members. On 1 December, Nike+ members will be able to try out the shoes at two Nike stores in SoHo, at Nike SoHo and 45 Grand.
The shoes feature “electro-adaptive reactive laces (Earl)”. Each shoe has an internal cable system made from fishing line and a pressure sensor in the sole. When a wearer puts the shoes on, this activates the sensors in the sole and the laces will tighten, depending on the foot shape and weight distribution of the wearer. The laces are controlled by a system of pulleys and can be tightened or loosened with a pair of buttons near the tongue.
The Earl system is powered by an in-shoe battery that has a lifespan of around two weeks between charges. This battery also powers an LED inside the sole, which lights up when the shoes are tightening and also to indicate low battery. Designer Tiffany Beers said the system has been in development for 10 years.

Guarantee you we will have self lacing football boots /basketball boots in a few years, once the likes of Messi/nba stars etc start wearing them it will take off like hotcakes.
Last release was in store only. Nike town did a brief twitter thing the day before to Pre book yourself a pair, but I missed that tweet. Fingers crossed 2nd time is a charm.
Offspring got Huaraches in for £60 atm. Picked up a pair of the Run Ultras in black. Nurse shoes/old man bowling shoes/Chinese tourist shoes are now on lock.
I know they're a marmite shoe in terms of looks but I dig them, especially the slightly sleeker lines on these compared to the regular ones
Been on my to buy list for a while, looking forward to seeing how comfy they are first hand.

He could've just said they came from another planet but seems keen to convince people with his bullshit pseudoscience that he knows stuff. I wouldn't trust him with my lunch. - SG
I'll keep that in mind Cocko, really just want something a bit casual right now. I have the Ted Baker brogues on that page though I think.
Edit: actually they're languishing at work when I should be using them to cut the rug. I might have to get some smarties for work so I can liberate my brogues.
