Imprecise controls coupled with puzzles that just aren't much fun to solve make this a pretty forgetful example of the genre. Would've been comfortably above average in '93 but it's the sort of thing you'd have to be a wee bit odd to play through for the first time in this day and age. I watched a 26min speed run just now - the bosses look decent, and you get to control a different character on occasion, but meh. 72%
Lost Vikings
Genuinely very good. A nice idea well executed. I wish I'd I'd least rented it on MD, and may return to my Retro Pie SNES save state at some point. Even more impressive when you consider this launched in 1992 and things were moving so quickly at the time. 88%
Where I got stuck, I came out of a cave, picked up a little vintage pistol which I used to shoot the enemies.
Then there was a wall about 1.5 times the height of Puggsy.
The video I watched had Puggsy hold the gun at the highest point, jump and use it to latch onto the top edge of the wall, Puggsy then hoisted himself up. Was that actually the solution or did I watch someone fudge it?
Your supposed to put the gun on the floor and use it as a platform. Trying to use the gun as a pivot looks like it works but the controls are so woolly I couldn't get it to.
I didn't play either of the games this time. TBH I just couldn't really be arsed with them.
Now that I know I can use the dualshock on the PC though, I'll be more likely to get into this. Just played some Super Probotector and it was lovely. Someone pick some more games.
@Questor's got until 9pm, if he misses deadline I'll stick him in first next time. Got the Pi set up with the speakers plugged in, so I fancy a crack at something tonight. JonB on the bench for the Ninnies please.
If it's up to me I'll go for Demon's Crest, the Capcom thing with the Gargoyle from Ghosts n Goblins.
I've never played it. Remember it getting quite good reviews but being criticised for being too short/easy so not worth the purchase. Probably a decent one to play here then.
Obvously if Questor turns up soon with an alternative then feel free to ignore.
I've played that, Retro had the cart a few years ago. I liked it, it's a bit GnGish, with a spot of returning to old areas with certain items/abilities, iirc? Will have to refresh my memory. I don't remember it being particularly easy, but we did get through most of it with save states fairly quickly.
That's settled then, apologies to Questor but Nin-tardiness will not be tolerated in the shipshape and businesslike world of retro gaming. I'll give you first dibs on the next one.
Played a bit of Chakan and remembered all of it. Turns out I have played it before, for a while at least, presumably when I was first dabbling with handheld emulation. It's....not very good. I always liked the look of it, and was very close to buying it second hand once. Will definitely play more, but it's tough going after recently playing the extremely finely tuned Volgarr the Viking.
I was going to start Demon's Crest today, but when I went to find the ROM it wasn't there. Seems a lot of SNES stuff has disappeared from the usual sites since I last checked.
So I played Super Bomberman 3 instead, which was nice.
