Loving the HIFIMANS. I'm up far too late listening to them, just had to force myself to switch everything off. Dylan's Where Are You Tonight (Journey Through Dark Heat) has never, ever sounded that good. The drums!
Perfect for layering in of sounds, dunno how the Youtube rip would suit your cans Skerret, but they do wonders for this too:
When it opens up at 53 secs, HELLO. Looks like I've made the right choice pairing these with the Fostex, I can switch at will depending on my listening habits. Roll credits.
Always love a happy ending, ta Moot. I got a bit teary at the end there, will test that with my own Hifimans. And to think, those are essentially the bottom of the range HM planars...

Took them to work today. Observations: they need an amp, but still sound excellent through the E12A so that's fine, it's attached to the X5 anyway. Best headphones I own or have owned for Erik B & Rakim, who have always been in 'not quite benefiting from the overkill' no-man's-land. Not any more though, they do wonders for Don't Sweat the Technique.

The HE500s do very nicely with all genres but they kick the fuck out of anything with guitars, dat HM midrange

After leaving my AKG NC headphones at Singapore airport on the way to Japan I dun bought a thing for my upcoming train trips and flight home. Once you go NC on a flight you can't go back.
Annoyingly these are actually cheaper in Aus at the moment but I'd rather pay the extra for the use now.
Yeah I was scooping through my bag looking for something and I think I knocked them out without realising. Noticed a while later and went back but they were gone and my flight was boarding so I couldn't go to find a Lost and Found. A shame really because they were the good balance between price and functionality. I considered getting the same ones again but decided I wanted more over ear than on ear as the on ear tends to ache a little after a while because of my glasses.
I'm in the market for some wireless jobbies and those were in the running, but I think I've decided on some Sennheiser Momentum 2.0 A/E. More reviewers have said they sound better but the noise cancelling isn't as good.
Recently bought some AKG C50 BT (same as the Y50 apparently, bargain for £60), but they do hurt me tabs after a while, so I need something more comfortable.
They’re great. Got them for £175 new (via eBay). Similar spec to the momentums apparently. Might be worth looking out for whilst you’re shopping. The caveat with them is the touch controls, which I’ve found useful but depending on how you use them could be a bit of an arse. There’s a review on amazon criticising this.
Yeah, I looked at those, designed for travelling, apparently. The Momentums just edge them in terms of the sound according to a few reviewers and since mine will probably never leave the house and I'm not bothered about noise cancelling, I ruled them out.

If you don't need NC don't get NC cans is the general rule

Especially because generally NC headphones sound worse with the NC turned off.
The Sony's sound nice though. Obviously not as good as a pure set but solid bass and nice and clear. I'm looking forward to testing the NC out properly on the train on Monday. It really is a godsend for flights.
I'll be mostly spotifying on the way to work, so it's comfort, NC and then sound in that order in terms of needs. Also want the ability to use wired although will mostly be wireless. Some occasional use in the home for TV and gaming.
So there's the Sony 1000X things, the 550s, the B&W PX, and the Bose jobbies. Anything else I should be considering? The Momentums are a bit too trendy for me. I'm more of a classic understated kind of guy.
What's the best way to check them out? Hang out in a shop with my phone for a while I guess?
Yep, try before you buy. I'd suggest Bose probably hit your sweet spot though are a little pricey, middle aged lifestyle brand see. Best in show for NC though.

Slightly off topic, but anyone had much experience with in-ear Bluetooth headphones for the gym and what Not? Have a pretty cheap pair at the mo, but they do little to block out background noise (why is gym music so bad?) And lack oomph
Very small point on the Bose jobbies. I think the BT receiver is on the right cup and I typically pop my phone in my front left pocket. Occasionally I get a few breaks in songs of moving quickly. Small issue but a bit irritating for the price of them. Also if buying shop around online. As long as the online store has a physical shop John Lewis will price match with their two year guarantee.
@kestla I’m was also after what you’re after. I got some really cheap in ear ones for the gym and they are ok. But I’m mainly into walking/jogging at the mo and I’m considering some of those bone conducting ones. @Skerret or anyone have any experience of them? I’m thinking more around safety and being able to hear traffic etc.
