Between this thread and the 101 things thread, I’m missing the ‘comic effect’ bit of that.

Maybe the posts on the previous page aren't amusing without tone of voice and knowing me better. The stuff in 101 things isn't meant that way though; I genuinely find most people's attitude to swear words offensive.
  • I doubt it. I’m sure you disagree with wider opinion. The notion of finding it offensive is ridiculous.
  • No irony, you just need to learn what ‘offensive’ means. Let me know when you’ve caught up.
  • I for one am offended.

My left eye seems to be leaking. It's quite annoying.

  • Gonna walk into A&E tonight when I get home. I've done something below my left collarbone, along the edge of pectoral muscle and just outside my shoulder. Walking is painful, getting up from a chair painful. Walking up the stairs very painful. Pushing a door open with my right hand is painful. The pain shoots down my left side from around the collarbone into my left pectoral. I can feel a constant pain down my left shoulder blade.

The pain is there constantly probably a 3/4 of of 10 in a pain scale. Then will shoot up to a 8/9 to the point I'm closing my eyes grimacing and swearing.

I have no idea how I've done this, started over the weekend. I guess it could be a pinched or trapped nerve. I don't think it's a muscle tear. Sitting on the bus home from work and the movement of the bus is causing me pain.

I really don't need this right now. Young baby at home as well. I love exercise, the endorphins help alot. If it turns out I can't exercise for awhile I will be one miserable middle aged man. Sigh.

Ps. I did call doctor for an appointment but told I could have an appointment in two weeks time and best I could have is a call back. Still waiting to hear back and I rang at 9am. Hence thinking of going to A&E.

Do you not have any walk in centres near you or em doc Dino? It's a good halfway point between GP and A&E
  • If the pain is hitting an 8/9, you really should be going to A&E mate. There's lots of ligaments and tendons and stuff in there you can strain/pull/tear (especially if you're lifting weights) that can cause huge pain. Don't wait for the GP.

  • Incline benchpress, felt a knock and then a lump appeared under the collar bone, no pain. Did not lift for a while and now everytime I do, i stare at the little region awaiting a tiny "pop".
  • No walkin centres near me. I did feel bad about going to A&E and wasting overstretched nhs funds on me. Rang 111 spoke to someone, explained symptoms and got told its a local gp issue. Tried to explain that ive been waiting all day for a gp call back, but to no avail. sigh. Anyway been busy helping missus with baby and housework. Finally sat down, gonna take a paracetmol and go to bed for 5 hours, before i have to get up for work. life eh?
  • Voltarol. Voltarol is your friend. If that don’t work - Go to A&E.

  • Call in sick tomorrow. Then call your GP and ask for an emergency appointment.
  • Agree, go to your docs or go to A&E tomorrow, don't go to work. You should get it looked at if it's causing that much pain.

  • Heh, although i now a have a dull ache through my upper arm and elbow. May have strained my bicep during rugby, but the pain is really pissing me off.
  • I went to work in the end, put some gel on the area and took a few painkillers. Good news is I have a docs appointment for tomorrow, hurrah. My surgery is notorious for giving you a booking a few weeks away. I think my call to the surgery this morning and me telling them that I called 111 may have helped.
  • Well went to docs, damaged my rotator cuff and acl. Not sure of there is a tear, need to wait for hospital appointment at musculoskeletal department and then physio.

Was told no driving (just wearing a seatbelt hurts and changing gears really hurts). Also no holding the baby on my left side (side of the injury).

Gave me a 2 week sicknote. Normally id stay in bed rest, play switch or read. However with the baby i feel so guilty about my missus having to do most of the work especially since im not going to be tremendously useful. I was thinking of going to work, missus told me off and siad i should rest. Having a baby at home is not rest as any dad can attest to.
  • Would you feel more guilty if you made the injury worse and were out of action longer, or even caused permenant damage?
  • Aye Dino rest up solidly for at least a week. It'll all even out eventually, as grim as this may sound, there'll be a point when yr missus is ill, or recovering and you'll be the one telling her to rest at all costs. Swallow that pride bro.

    Men, eh?
  • Been to see the specialist at the hostipal about problems with my left thumb. Thats's the one I use to operate the zoom control on a camera.

Congratulations! You have osteoarthritis in the joint of your thumb sir.
    It's probably about a 2 on a scale of 1-4 just now.
    It will slowly get worse.
In the mean time, take ibuprofen and wear this splint while you're working...for the rest of your life.

Come back and see me when it gets significantly worse and I'll give you a steroid injection.
Then when it gets really bad, there's an operation we can do.
    Have a nice day!

    You have my sympathy g.

I have osteoarthritis in my hip, as I'm sure I've mentioned before. Trying to hold off as long as I can from getting injections, even though some days I'm nearly crying with the pain. It's not that often that it flares up so bad, maybe 6 times a year. The rest of the time I'm in constant pain but I'm used to it now. Only really notice when I get in and sit down and Naproxin dulls it... a little.

Was offered pain management classes. Yeh, no thanks. I've been in constant pain since 1988. I've taught myself.
  • Aye, sucks guys. The specialist said they only tend to do the injections twice, so try to hold out until you feel you really need them.
Might have to get me one of those new Microsoft controllers...
