Well it's the worst race on the calendar next. Might as well not bother watching. Hamo or Bottas victory with probably zero overtakes. Its Monaco after all. The race I hate the most. Dull as ditch water.
It’s about that beautiful tunnel. The light bloom as they come out the other end. The chicane, back up the hill. But agree it’s not the most exciting track on the calendar. I still enjoy watching it though.
Sky viewing figures on average are around 1 million a race. When it was free to air the average was 10 million a race. The two most passionate markets started with free to air I.e UK and Italy and are now stuck behind paywalls.
More worryingly for the season, Hamilton says this is the best car Mercedes have produced while he's been with the team and Ferrari have admitted they may have got their aerodynamics wrong with the concept they went with, inward flow instead of outward. That's a very hard thing to fix.
It's not great though that Ferrari have started so poor considering Merc have such a good track record of developing in season.
The problem is that the drive towards cost cutting by limiting engine parts has made the cars super reliable. Five 1-2 finishes by merc is not only great performance wise but amazing reliablity.
If they top three teams cars all finish the mid field has no chance of getting a cheeky podium.
The cars should be at the very limit of engineering and cost cutting is irrelevant.
To be fair the cars are regularly setting track records so they probably are the best cars they've made. Most of that is probably due to regulations but they are still quicker.
They get faster every year but best is relative term to the competition .. to some extent ... early doors of
The turbo era merc where smashing everything and I guess
This years williams might be faster than previous Williams
I wouldn’t call it the best they’ve ever made
Trye management is a problem as well, they have to manage them through a stint which means they are nowhere near the limits of the machinery. I think if we saw them all go flat out ever lap, some cars would break down, but Mercedes would probably have an even bigger advantage.
Unlike last year when Alonso used an existing IndyCar from a current team. This year McLaren used their own. Kinda stupid decision of them. If they were gonna use their own car then should have done the entire IndyCar season to work out the kinks.
