It's a conservative decision, means you can build an unreachable total and don't have to bat last when the wicket is at its worst.
But I my opinion England were there for the taking, they had one session to have another go at opening batsmen who have already failed today, their confidence is shot. The bowlers are still fresh too, with the scent of English fear in their nostrils. They'd have skittled us again I'm sure.
It’s quite often the follow on isn’t enforced. I wonder if there’s something to be said about a bowling side having done their job at such intensity need some time to gee themselves up a lot to start again.
I think there are a few things to consider, some of them not even down to the team/players etc. There's the fact that a five day game could be over in two and the fans are short changed, the ground loses money. And it's a bit ungentlemanly.
Still, the first innings was so insipid they deseve it.
The boy has got into cricket. Not easy in Scotland but his best friend's parents are from Pakistan and they've been sending the poor lad to lessons. Anyway, the upshot is that the boy is all over it, it costs a paltry £50 a year and there's a massive green bit in the middle of Patrick that you can get pissed in and it's walking distance from the flat. It's other claim to fame is it used to be a football ground and hosted the first international football match.
England no doubt about to find out that tournament cricket is different than going around the world flailing everyone when it doesn't particularly matter. 100-odd for 3 after Root and Roy had got them off to a good start (both gone now).
Bit disappointing compared to some of the crazy scores seen over the last few years but this pitch didn't play that well and South Africa bowled nicely.
