That's the one. Embrace the of-it's-time sound of toe-tapping country rock and you can handle anything the genre throws at you. After a while you won't be able to put your finger on why the style became a joke, and soon after that you'll be unable to fathom how anyone could think it was anything less than awesome.
Then, and only then, will you be ready to admit that Achy Breaky Heart actually does bang a little bit.
Ken Burns' country doc continues to impress. Up to episode 6, the Kristofferson segment was so damn good. Best songwriter in the English language is a quote I can get on board with.
He's not much of a singer and he's a straightforward guitar player but he's a great whistler.
Was all over The Cactus Blossoms earlier this year after they popped up in my discover list, then our Moot gave the nod also. Stoplight Kisses is frequently an earworm whether I've heard it recently or not. Great sound.
Last day at work today so picking up a bottle and will settle in with some recs from the last few pages over the next week, will get Willie on there for sure chief.
Does anyone still mess about with MP3s? Got Colter Wall's Songs of the Plains on vinyl recently and it came with a download code. I've already got and ripped the cd, so I don't need it and it'd be a shame to put something so awesome in the bin. If not (or if so), click on this anyway. It's from his previous album but it's the best story song this decade imho. Chef's kiss songwriting.
Had a whale of a time record store/charity shop shopping for Gav's albums. Obviously I couldn't part with some, and I did pretty well myself. Very happy with these, the collection has already reached 'needs at least one storage box' stage:
Spoiler:
Got loads of Geoff now!
I've only got a vague recollection of writing the post-it notes (was very drunk at the time), so a) apologies for what's probably nonsense, and b) sorry I couldn't part with the double Marty Robbins album lool. Hit gold with the Don Mclean album, Chain Lightning is his second best track imo. Slightly disappointed with the Donovan record as it's not the version of Catch the Wind I wanted, but I do love Universal Soldier so I'm not bitter.
LOVING IT. Plus I've got loads of ultra dodge compilations with actually okay tracklistings.
Can’t believe it took me so long to get around to watching Wild Rose. The story of a hard-knock Glaswegian girl who dreams of being a country singer. It’s great, which I expected, but I wasn’t ready for cameos from Whispering Bob Harris, Ashley McBryde and Kacey Musgraves.
Elevator pitch: What if Ken Loach remade A Star is Born in Glasgow?
Listened to Miranda Lambert's latest this morning. Can't remember what it was called off-hand but it's a great big pop pie and I liked most of the slices.
