  • Since graduating in May, I am a freelance graphic designer and animator and absolutely love my job.

I specialise in motion graphics, I started the day I handed in my last assignment and it's literally been non stop since, which is awesome and lucky - considering many of my uni colleagues have unfortunately struggled to get work.

The majority of my services are currently being utilised through a local design company - who keep me busy for 3 and a half days of my working week with my contract for them lasting until Summer 2013 with the possibility of extending. Jobs for these guys can vary from the awesome to the absolute mundane, but its a good mix. The remainder of my working week is used for my own freelance projects which i've been able to obtain successfully myself.

I didn't leave uni with the intention of starting my own business, it just kind of worked out that way but I don't consider this a longterm goal. It is however making me money at the moment, I can still carry on learning and, most importantly, giving me experience that will hopefully lead me onto even greater things.
  • I do, from the sounds of things, pretty much the same as GamerMike.

I have a degree in Animation, specialised in 3D modelling and animation. I now do a mix of that combined with motion graphics and low level graphic design, more to service the motion graphics rather than stand alone graphic design projects.

The difference is I do it for a company in a full time permanent position. The company is a solutions company that specialise in shelf and fixture layout for supermarkets and large stores, our department is sort of tacked on.

The movies I make, for the most, serve as presentation pieces used by food manufacturers (Nestle, Kelloggs, pepsi etc) to pitch their plans to stores.

Obviously I would rather be somewhere super exciting, making cool adverts, shows or fx but it is a good place to work and I work with my mates and have a laugh everyday so I can't complain.
Air_Hair_Lair works with me and does the same thing, except he is a Senior Artist, therefore in theory could tell me what to do, but it's not that type of environment and I would spit in his tea.
  • I've somehow managed to end up pitching to a rather massive company in the sports genre.
All down to one cheeky email.

    Im pretty jubilant tbh.

As of soon I'll be doing nothing. In the future, I hope something. I think most of our highly-paid jobs are empty, wretchedly bullshit-infested experiences. London.

There's no pride in collecting six-figures for bouncing art-school evangelism off the walls of a gallery, ever delivered in its well-trained craft for profit ahead of honest opinion.

No pride in highway-blogging about haute design under the striven-for guise of a recognised and respected arbiter of taste. It's not work, and it's not admirable. It's a socialistic Ponzi masquerading as life enhancement to rich, limp-minded air zeds.

Not art itself - couldn't praise it to the greater, but its now-common victimhood to a Fagin-led value based on its feckless, la-di-da social standing.

    And bankers. And Banksy.

I wish I had the youth and confidence to put myself about in medicine or law or any other worthwhile career. I like money and I like self-respect. Clinging to the latter.

    (Whinge, whinge, fuckin' whinge.)

  • I think I've already explained this, but I'll do it again.

I'm a solutions consultant for a software company that specialise in recruitment ATS/CRM software. I've been here since February and this week we'll be completing a deal that will join us up with one of the largest software companies in the world.

It'll be weird going from this small, niche little software company, with graffiti on the walls, music blaring out from each of our offices, stocked fridges, etc to a massive corporate environment.

No one really knows what's going to happen. We dont know our job roles, territories, product, etc. Then I'm off to Boston for 3 weeks.

    Exciting.
  • @DS
I could be massively wrong tbf.

That's why I'm not saying. At the moment I have information, which makes me powerful, like He-Man and I don't wanna go back to being some shitty Prince Adam-a-like.

I'm a teacher. That obviously makes me useless at my job, a freeloader who rolls in at 9 and out at 3, I work three days at week and all I want to do is berate children to mask my own ineptitude

    "solutions consultant" => Pseud's corner.

Well, yes. It is a pretty pompous title.

But my job is to basically consult on a business and offer a software solution that meets their requirements.

Have you got me a job yet? Put me in our recruitment software. I want to be the top search hit for everything. $140k min plus benefits, you can tell them I have "boardroom ruthlessness" like no other because my current job involves actually killing people.
