Superliminal is pretty ropey tbh. It starts off wonderfully but turns into a brute-force-try-everything type of affair. It usually results in you having had the correct solution right at the start but it just wasn’t recognised.
I played the first hour or so and it’s very sweet. There’s not much to actually do though, is there? Very much a story that you follow, rather than a game you play.
I didn’t get the tone, the dialogue or the story though. I’m normally a fan of this type of thing but it felt badly judged to me - though admittedly this is just a personal view. The platforming sections though are just bizarre, and not in a good way.
I thought The Artful Escape peaked early and steadily declined until it was over. I don't see why these games don't have better mechanics for the interactive segments. I get that it's not a platform game at heart, but why would the devs settle for iffy if they're a big part of the package? It reminded me of Flipping Death, in that it does a good job of pretending it's pretty good but actually isn't.
A Night in the Woods and Wandersong are still the Hi Water Mark for narrative side scrolling thingies with direct character control.
