Elden Ring
  • If you're rocking the one-handed approach, get a good shield. There's a Jellyfish Shield that can get you an additional 20% damage.
  • What talismans are you using?
  • I think the capital is the place to farm smithing stone 6s?  Try the soldiers.

Did you summon for the capital boss?  Which spirit ash are you using?  Mimic Tear will make things easier.
I am a FREE. I am not MAN. A NUMBER.
  • where do I get mimic tear?
    What talismans are you using?

Pretty low faith, haven't looked into many talismans. Assigned some basic stuff, but maybe I should change my sword to quality and use talismans or grease to buff? Think it's ice right now.
I'm still great and you still love it.
  • You should go off exploring. You’re missing what I consider to be the most beautiful area(s)!

Have you beaten Radahn? Do him then you’ll know where to go.

  • Had a quick dip back into this yesterday. Forgot how to not spam dodge, had a good streak L3-ing to gallop torrent just to dismount, lots of accidental crouching.

Whoever suggested that torch for the Black Knives, it was amazing. Lol at them just wandering about while I sneak up on them and then spam dodge. Platforming in Ordina sucked more than the black knives, got to the colourful Haligtree bit and accidentally fell out the tree.

    Next time, Haligtree. Next time.

Fuck knows about Mimic Tear. Killed a thing which bore all the hallmarks but didn't get it. Best summon in the game apparently

I did beat him. Went down the holes.

Went a long time without it. Just completely missed the clues pointing me there. Then someone says MT has been nerfed and I now need Tiche. Sigh.

Face, listen to Elf. Pick a direction and go. You will find something. You will always find something.
  • Mimic Tear's down the hole @Face, in Night's Sacred Ground (about 5 mins from where Sparky beat that guy) and you'll need a stonesword key to get to it. I know people rave about it and despite the nerfs it is still amazing, but as it replicates your character it's only really good if your build is really good.

There are plenty of other great early game summons. Banished Knights Oleg and Engval come to mind, and I'm a huge fan of the Greatshield Soldier Ashes. Those things are just bullies and hilarious to watch.

The Haligtree might just be my favourite place in the entire game, all of it. Have fun!

I can't remember the name of the summon I used, some headless knight. She was tops blooby
  • Ah, yeah, beat that guy. Will have a better look around.

Just had a good run at boss. Took him to well past his second stage.

And yes, it is soldiers in cap who drop level 6 stones.

When I say direction, I mean more within areas. I've opened the map up in broad terms as much as I can at least as far as the sth west of it goes. I picked up a pretty great halberd too. Been very much sticking to scimitar, but this had its place.

Also, yeah, it's the greatshield fellas who've been my main go to summoning. They can just last so long.
I'm still great and you still love it.

If you're running a quality or dex sword and shield build and looking for a lil more oomph, Face, I'd highly recommend giving Bloodhound's Fang a go if you haven't already. It's a fast attacking curved greatsword that pairs well with a shield and has a fantastic two-stage ash of war. Buff it with the Bloodflame Blade and Flame Grant me Strength incantations (you'll need 15 faith) and it'll carry you through the entire game, especially when you get mimic. Plus it'll give you something to spend those somber smithing stones on.

Talismans recommendations are more tricky, but in general anything that boosts health, damage negation, or stamina are worth a look, as is anything that'll get you to a stat threshold you're a little shy of.

For more specialist stuff, the curved sword talisman boosts guard counters and is very handy with a sword and shield build, and if you ever run dual scimitars (or powerstance any curved swords or twinblades) instead of a shield you'll wanna check out the claw talisman and the winged sword insignia to buff jump attacks and successive attacks.
  • Nice. Have all of that. Will take a look.
I'm still great and you still love it.
  • Went back to this and had a very productive evening. Started by leveling up the old long sword and switching back to that.
Then went back to the capital cos I'd surely missed stuff in there (previously I'd given up in the sewers)
This time found the route to Godfrey that I'd missed, slapped him about. Then found morgott and sorted him out (took a few more goes).
Then found the route out of the capital, beat up the fell twins and got into the divine tower (it's been so long since I've found one i could open I'd forgot what they even were!)
    Level 100 now too.

    Stomping though it
  • Damn, that is productive. I'm 91hrs in. around level 80ish, I think, but could be soo so wrong.
I'm still great and you still love it.
  • It's a marathon, not a sprint Face. Although, bet Ram stomps marathons too.
  • Ha. I think i'm on the way to the land of the giants so i guess i'll be getting stomped soon enough. my total playtime is at 71.5 hrs

It did help being a bit more levelled up than when last in the capital. stomping around smashing those big knights up with relative ease rather than tiptoeing around expecting death at every corner made it much more fun. plus i think i'm a bit more blase about the whole thing now coming back to it after a long break - i'm less worried about dying and losing runes or being frustrated at taking the wrong (ie too tough) path, and if i do get stuck I'll just turn it off.

    This is the way.
  • That and having mimic tear levelled up quite a bit! ;)

    Ah. Cheating is it?
  • it takes a lot of skill and class to find it....

  • Oh yeah. Need to go and hunt for that.

Basically had everything for the bloodhound gang great sword. Levelled to +10 without needing to farm a damn thing. Except some cash.

I'm doing it like they do it on the discovery channel now. (ie morgott is currently ramming his bloody sword right up my ass.)

I'm still great and you still love it.
  • If you don't have the faith for those buffs I mentioned just use a grease for now, or use the Two Fingers Heirloom talisman if you have it to raise your faith by 5. Also, abuse the hell out of that ash of war. If you haven't already sussed it you can follow up the initial skill attack with a heavy attack that dashes back in. Both dashes give you plenty of iFrames. You got this.
  • Lost about 5 hours of game time as it just didn't save for a few days.

    :-(
  • Doh.

Got mimic tear. No idea how I missed it first time. Shitting myself all the way through nekron first time, I presume.

Had morgott down to one hit but screwed it. Tomorrow.
I'm still great and you still love it.
  • Did the same. It was a really big area I missed!
  • Well now I know what I'm doing tonight
Not everything is The Best or Shit. Theres many levels between that, lets just enjoy stuff.
